My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

No Time to Blog

I just have time for a quickie this afternoon — I want to show you my new sock in progress.

Loopy Laces 082307

Loopy Laces 082307

I call it “Loopy Laces.” That was a name someone guessed for my last sock, and Sheri told me she really liked it (hmmmmm, wonder why?) so I designed a Loopy Laces sock for Sheri.

The yarn is Misty Mountain Farm Jubilee Sock Yarn in the “Apple Rose” colorway. But I keep wanting to call it “Axl Rose” — hee hee! I got this yarn, of course, from The Loopy Ewe and I find it to be quite fabulous. Love how it is knitting up!

I’m so pleased y’all like my Healthy Spine Socks — the pattern will be available for sale at The Loopy Ewe soon, my pets.

“Hey! What did I tell you about that camera?”

Sorry for the brevity — must go knit. I hope you all have a great weekend.

  1. Love the new sock pattern. Can we assume it too will be available at the Loopy Ewe?

Seems you have big plans for the weekend. Enjoy!
Looks like Lucy will be getting a lot of rest.

  2. I think the Loopy Laces Sock is one of my favorites so far! Looks like a very fun pattern.

Poor Lucy. Silly Moms with cameras never let a kitty get her sleep.

  3. Wow! 13 pairs of socks in 2 months! I hope you are going to do a big photo spread of all the Summer of Socks socks at the end of the summer. And I can’t wait to see what you decide to knit when sock only knitting ends.

    A scritch to Lucy.

  4. Week-end?? By my count I have one more work day until the week-end. Just where is Wendy off to?

    Another super sock pattern a-la-Wendy.

  5. I really like these new sock; the yarn looks great with the pattern you’ve made. Hope you’re feeling better this weekend!

  6. Holy smokes, how am I going to decide which of these cool new socks to knit next?!

Actually, once this one is available – I’m sure it will be first on my needles. I just completely and solidly love that lace pattern. It will be first, that is, unless you have even more wonderful sock patterns up your sleeves (or on your toes?).

  7. The Loopy Lace is lovely! (Hey, I *think* that was my guess for the Healthy Spine socks. ๐Ÿ˜€ ) I haven’t tried the Misty Mountain Farm Jubilee Sock Yarn yet, but there are a couple of skeins calling to me from the Giant Sock Yarn Buffet. I might have to go see what they’re sayin’.

Axl Rose. Wendy, you crack me up!

  8. Sometimes brevity is a good thing. I like your new sock.

  9. Another gorgeous Wendy Knits creation! Love the name, as well, although I can understand why Axel Rose might be a great alternative! Have a fabulous weekend!

  10. Woohoo! Loopy Laces! Love it love it love it. Now I want to knit it. No pressure, but could you please get these done quickly and write up the pattern? ๐Ÿ™‚ I just ordered a bunch more of that “Axl Rose” colorway today and I can’t wait to make my own pair! (You and your sock designs are amazing.)

  11. Wow, that design is really quite pretty! I like the way it undulates, making it a perfect choice for variegated colorways.

  12. You realize the next shot of Lucy’s going to have to be the camera smackdown shot…

  13. Oooh, I just love the look of that yarn. It works really well with the pattern, and I’m usually crabby about variegated yarn in textured patterns. I can’t wait to purchase these “recipes”!

  14. Yum! That was worth tearing myself away from Cat Bordhi’s new book for!

  15. I think that these socks are the prettiest ones you’ve made all summer! I really like them. I hope you, the KOARC, and Lucy have a fabulous and (hopefully) pain-less weekend!

  16. Wendy
Truly a wonderful new pattern and a great colorway to show off the pattern. I’ve like your other new patterns this summer but something about this one really speaks to me.

Hopefully you will post this pattern or sell it at Loopy when you are done.

Have a great weekend and I hope you are felling better.

  17. Wendy in Cambridge says:

Loopy Laces–what a gorgeous pattern! That has to be one of my favorites. I’m hoping that Sheri will have some of your patterns available next week.

Lucy looks a little put out in today’s photo!

  18. hadn’t looked at your blog yet until now – and the answer is YES, I like the new sox big time!

  19. What a beautiful pattern – love it! I don’t know whether to be more impressed with the beautiful patterns you keep coming up with, the great yarns you choose, or how quickly you knit them up— the correct answer is probably all three–WOW! I am really looking forward to seeing these new socks completed — no pressure, tho! ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait for the pattern for these to be available to us (they will be, right?? ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. What a mind. This is my favoritist sock of them all. And you are heading at full speed towards my sock number guess. Keep it up!!!!!

  21. Tell Miz Lucy it’s her own fault for being so beautiful.

I am loving everything about the new socks.

  22. If anyone deserves a sock designed for her, it’s Sheri. She is so sweet!

  23. kelly in new mexico says:

Love, Love, Love the pattern. Want the pattern. Tell please tell when the pattern is available. Where, when please, please.
Didn’t think I would like the colorway, but was so wrong…..
Love the colorway, again Love the pattern, must have pattern, fingers itch to knit the pattern. Patiently waiting to fing info.
    You did good girl!!!

  24. Oh, I love that pattern. It is so pretty. I love all your socks, but I think these might be my favorite from the Summer o’ Socks!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  25. Ooo! I quite like that one!

  26. Lisa in Georgia says:

Well, I like all of your socks and patterns, but I agree with Jen that this the best one yet!!

Like many other Hollywood starlets, Lucy grows weary of the papparrazi … Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful…

    Have a great weekend!

  27. Marianne Y says:

I love your new pattern, Loopy Laces! It is gorgeous!

  28. Loopy Laces is a clever name. It’s a pretty pattern and yarn too.

I can just hear the sock screaming out “Welcome to the Jungle”.

  29. I love this latest pattern. I really like all your patterns, but this one is beautiful. I hope you make it available to us — I think I would want to make it in the same yarn you’re using.

  30. oh, that is a lovely pattern – and such a fitting name! you’re amazing….

  31. That pattern is beautiful! I have a crush on this impending sock.

  32. Gosh! I really, really like that sock . I’m on my second pait of your Sports Weight Toe Ups and I like them, but the hardest part of a toe up for me is where exactly on the foot do you start your heel . Is it right at the ankle bone? Can you do a photo sometime?

  33. I love the name of your Loopy Laces socks too!

    Yours truly,
    Loopy Knitter

  34. Love, love, love the new sock you’re working on!!

  35. Love the socks!

  36. OOoOhhhh! gorgeous sock! love the pattern! Can’t wait for it to be available! Thanks!

  37. Love the new pattern! Lucy should just resign herself to the fact that we want to see her, and the life of the beautiful is a burden she must bear.

  38. Marianne Y says:

Wendy, I really do love this pattern. But, I have a question about the yarn. For some reason, it looks to me like it is not nearly as soft as something like Dream in Color or Fiesta Boomerang. Is that a fair statement? I do like the way it seems to evenly stripe with your pattern, though. Many thanks for all of your wonderful work!

  39. really liking the look of that new sock, doesn’t hurt that the yarn is quite beautiful, too. i wish i could knit (or find half the time/motivation) like you do. just too busy with everything else right now, but there’s a serious sock yarn stash just waiting to try some of your new patterns. ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. I love, love, love this sock and colorway. Can’t wait to buy the yarn and pattern!

  41. Truly a winning combination! Love this new one!

  42. I Love the loopy laces! I think that is your best effort so far, and considering what lovely work you do, that is saying something! Can;t wait to get my hands on the pattern. ๐Ÿ™‚

  43. Please tell us this pattern will be available. LOVE IT! Hope your having a GOOD healthy weekend.

  44. Axl Rose…teehee..never thought I’d see him referenced on a knitting blog! Thanks for the giggle ๐Ÿ˜‰

  45. Oooo, I really like the colors of the yarn. Very pretty.

  46. Ooooh that’s a lovely sock, that Loopy Laces sock. I love the stitch pattern. I hope that one will be available from Sheri eventually too.

I’ve got a toe up sock construction question. I used your recommended bind off from yesterday’s post on a sock I was doing last night and when I got to the last stitch I realized I don’t know how to deal with that on the toe up kind of sock. I don’t want to end up with a little ear flap looking thing on the most visible part of my sock after all. Plus in a varigate yarn, you end up with an end thread that might be hard to weave in invisibly. So I’m wondering what you do? Or any of your other readers?

  47. I love that pattern! The yarn is purdy too. Right now I’m knitting a sock in a yarn that looks just like yours, but itsn’t. It’s Lorna’s Laces Shepard Sock in the Water color colorway. I’m amazed at how similar the colors are to yours.

    Have a good weekend!

  48. Love the new sock, but if I am going to win the summer of socks, you need to get busy on the second sock for all those single socks you have already made. I am beginning to think that we knitters ought to start a trend of wearing a sock of any pattern and color on one foot and whatever fits our fancy on the other. We have two distinct feet, we should be able to knit two different distinct socks for them. At any rate, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. PS When my sons (now 37 and 40) were teenagers they would happily wear different socks on each foot. I think it takes a special upbringing.

  49. Once again a pattern that I can’t wait to get my hands on!!!

  50. This is my favorite sock pattern so far! Will you be selling this one through the Loopy Ewe as well??

  51. You make me so jealous!

LOOOOVING the newest pattern. It’s really lovely. I think I would probably get more socks done quicker if I designed them all on my own… but I’m always afraid they will turn out to not fit my bizarre feet! Ha!

The colors you picked are also really pretty.

  52. Both sock designs are lovely! (You can tell I haven’t been paying much attention lately, but I will now, really.)

  53. Nice toe! Cute pattern, Wendy—you clever girl, you!

  54. I’m knitting a pair of socks in a very similar stitch pattern. I don’t remember where I lifted it from; I just found the chart all on its own in a pile of papers on my desk recently and thought, hey, this would look nice in the new CTH Supersock DK “Spring Frost” that just came in the mail. And it does.
