Fits and Starts

Thanks for all the compliments on the L-Bee Socks. I’m pretty pleased with them myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

The pattern for the L-Bee Socks (as well as the pattern for Making Tracks) will be available for sale at The Loopy Ewe later this month. Stay tuned!

Speaking of patterns for sale a number of you have requested that we make the patterns available as a pdf download. While I do realize that this would be convenient, we’ve decided to offer the patterns for sale as hard copies only at this time. I am sorry if this inconveniences some of you, but we’re going this route for a number of reasons.

So anyhow. I needed to start a new sock pattern so I spent yesterday evening fiddling with yarn and needles and yarnovers and what-not. I finally came up with something I liked.

I am calling this pattern “Tangled Vines” because the pattern looks to me like . . . well . . . tangled vines.

The yarn is Shibuiknits sock yarn in the “seaweed” colorway. This is my first experience using this yarn and I like it very much. It’s got a nice firm twist and knits up into a nice soft cushy fabric on my ubiquitous 2mm needles. And I like how it makes a very subtle stripe while knitting up.

Other than that, I’ve been tidying up today. So I’ve got nuthin’ else.

Lucy has been busy with one of her new toys.

  1. Kudos on tidying up! Does Lucy like to help with that?
Thanks to your generic pattern, I think I’m finally getting the hang of these toe-up socks! Thank you!!

  2. Well let’s see how has Wendy has spent my money the past few weeks:

    1) Chaz Dean
    2) Loopy Ewe
    3) J.L. Yarnworks

Keep the good suggestions and lovely sock patterns coming.

  3. I was just about to leave a comment about the L-Bee socks
being my favorites, but WOW, Tangled Vines are amazing!
    Beautiful work, as ALWAYS!
Keeping you in my prayers for Healing….

  4. Ooh, that’s a pretty pattern! Love the green yarn too.

  5. Tangled Vines seems like a very appropriate name for that pattern, methinks.

Ah, tidying up. I really wish I could do more of that. If I have the inclination, I don’t have the time, and if I have the time, I have no inclination.

  6. I think the L-Bee socks are by far my most favorite socks so far. And the yarn colorway name is positively mouthwatering. I can practically taste the honey.

The Tangled Vines are looking like they will be favorites too, especially because of the subtle striping of the yarn and the fresh green color. I also like the lovely fawn colored backdrop in the it’s resting on.

  7. I love those socks Wendy! When I read “Tangled Vines” the next thing that popped to mind was “Kudzu”–in case you have another fast-growing “vine” pattern down the road ๐Ÿ˜‰

What’s Lucy’s new toy? It looks like…a sponge? (my cats’ favorite cheap toys are straws and zip ties)

  8. Tangled Vines? You could call them L-B’s backyard…..oh, just kiddin’! ๐Ÿ˜‰
You know, Lucky is going to want a new toy now!

  9. Those interested in Shibui will be happy to know I washed my sock in “Midnight” (a rich, dark blue) and had NO BLEEDING. At all! I was really amazed; with the depth of color I was prepared for some color loss, but none came.

(I washed in lukewarm with SOAK Aquae. Just FYI.)

Glad to hear about the L-Bee pattern, I’m all over that one! =)

  10. I love the pattern and I love the green!!!! (Kudos to you for knitting nothing but socks. I would find that very, very difficult. What can I say, I like variety).

  11. Another winner! Lucy’s new toy matches her eyes perfectly!

  12. Love the yarn! Love the pattern! I discovered shibui about a month ago and love it! that and my smooshy are tied for favorites among my sock yarn right now.

  13. i work at my LYS, and we started carrying ShiBui about a month ago. i straighten the sock yarns every time i work just so i can squeeze the delightful springy skeins of ShiBui! i may also occasionally rub one on my cheek…. =)

i’m glad to hear the yarn works up well. i can’t wait to start my own pair of socks in this yumminess!

  14. Alison Jacobson says:

Am I the only one who still gets a bit freaked seeing Wendy knitting socks on 2 circs?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Gorgeous socks, Wendy. A speedy recovery to you!

  15. Wendy, have you abandoned dpns for socks for good?

  16. Gee, only a new sock pattern in the works and a picture of Lucy. What a rip. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. i smell a sock book in the works. you certainly have enough good material and a lot of fans. you are a fabulous knitter and a great designer. keep up the good work.

though you probably have plenty in your pocket already, i would volunteer to test patterns if you were ever to need such a thing.

  18. New Jersey Laura says:

L-Bee and tangled vines are beautiful! I loved the L-Bee close-up that pops up when you click on the sock photo.

  19. The new sock looks great. Very pretty.

Is that some sort of packing foam that Lucy is playing with? Our cats love packing peanuts and such.

  20. I got my first shipment of your patterns from Loopy Ewe today – wonderful! I’ll be watching for more of my favorites as they’re available. I truly adore the Tangled Vines in that green – perfect!

  21. Ok, pleeease don’t laugh at me, but….if I read the info in the upper right hand corner correct, you’ve made 16 pairs of socks in two and a half months??? If that’s so, I’m sooo impressed. Wow. Double wow. Is this right?

  22. You sure are winding up with a bang! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a collection of beautiful socks. Have they taken over another drawer in your dresser, yet? ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Oooo! I like that color. Looks great with the pattern too.

  24. I got some of the ShiBuiKnits in last week’s sneak up. It is so soft and squishy. I missed your patterns tho, all the ones I wanted were gone. Maybe next time.

  25. Another wonderful pattern!!! I’ve loved every single one of them that you’ve knit this summer. I missed out on the patterns at the Loopy Ewe but scored some ShiBui yarn. I love how it’s knitting up and can’t wait to start on my own!! I’ll have to keep my eyes on the next batch of your patterns at the Loopy Ewe!!!

  26. Well I’m sad they won’t offer pdfs. I never score anything before the groupie stalkers do at the Ewe. Maybe someday I’ll luck out and be able to get the “Spine” sock pattern.

  27. Hot off the press! Wendy’s patterns are up again at The Loopy Ewe! Yay, Wendy and Sheri!
(I must admit, I only came over here AFTER I had scored the pattern I was keeping my eye on!)
    : )
