Sunday Afternoon

I’ve been working along on my Crest o’ the Wave scarf — see?

I decided against knitting the two halves from the bottom and joining them in the center. When I reached the halfway point, I was sort of “in a zone” and just didn’t stop. So the scarf will be one long continuation of the pattern. I expect it’ll be at least 6 feet long when done. The photo shows it at about three-quarters done.

Tomorrow is the dreaded first day back at work after two glorious weeks at home. Am I looking forward to that? Why, no.

Lucy will no doubt be peeved as well — no one to tend to her every kitty need during the day!

  1. Ooooh that scarf is so pretty!

  2. Beautiful! I hope tomorrow isn’t too bad. I went back last week, but am still dreading the “full week.”

  3. What a beautiful combination of hand-dyed yarn and lace patterning in your scarf! I see why you wanted to keep going, it is so lovely. Lucy might have to adjust a little after having you to herself to so long. I’m glad you were home for your birthday and I hope your work week starts off smoothly.

  4. Blech! The first day back after a holiday is always awful until you get back into the swing of things.

The Crest o the Wave is looking beautiful though. I think having it ungrafted will make it appear as though the sea is rippling it’s waves around your neck.

  5. That scarf is so beautiful!

  6. Beautiful!!

Good luck with your return to work, and I’m sure you’ll have a Lucy waiting for your lap when you return!

  7. Well your scarf is much much longer than mine. I saw yours followed the link and decided to give it a try. It turns out I can do some lace!! WOO hoo! Well muct catch up!

  8. Tomorrow is my first day back to work after a 2 week break and it is not going to be easy! Be strong and you can look forward to an evening with Lucy and your knitting.

  9. HOW wide is the scarf?

  10. anne marie in philly says:

    COTW scarf is loverly!

poor lucy…but then again she might be thinking “peace and quiet at last!”

grab a sock and hop the blue line…

  11. The scarf is coming along splendidly. Just love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I really like the undulating way the pattern moves. Though I guess that’s why it’s called Crest of the WAVE. *chuckles*

I expect Lucy will be anxiously awaiting your return home tomorrow evening!

  13. First day back after a long holiday is eek. The scarf is beautiful. The perfect combination of stitch pattern and yarn.

  14. ellen in indy says:

i can relate. i’ve been off 16 days . . . my longest vac in 5 yrs. i didn’t knit as much as you, wendy, nor is it as gorgeous, but i probably set some personal bests!

and, like you, i got lots of feline cuddling. my cats say happy new purrs to lucy.

  15. Pretty scarf! And if you wanted to show us the blue afghan it is lying on, why, we wouldn’t complain one little bit ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. I am in awe. I am totally, completely incapable of such monogamous knitting. Somehow the stress of about 5 or 6 wips laying around is easier for me to deal with than knitting a repetitive pattern for any length of time. As always, I’m truly impressed by your commitment.

  17. Oh Wendy just gorgeous!!! LOL You and my DH, he also took two weeks off and is absolutely dreading going back tomorrow.

    Hi Lucy!

  18. How many yds or grams do you think your skein is? I couldn’t find that in your information.
Thank you.. I know how it is going back to work.

  19. Theresa in Italy says:

What a perfect match of yarn and pattern. No wonder you were “ina zone” and didn’t want to stop!

I don’t know who to feel sorrier for, you or Lucy!

  20. Wendy, just found your blog today and just loved all the socks!! I am just learning to knit, I am only casting on over and over again and I wanted to knit socks first and everyone laughed at me since I only know how to cast-on…I guess I think that far ahead even if I can’t do it! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!

  21. Good luck with re-entry Wendy. The scarf is gorgeous so far!

  22. Crest O’ the Wave is lovely! I send my hopes and good juju that getting back into the swing at work is easier than you expected. It is horrible to have to move on past jammies and knitting and kitty petting, I hear you! Hang tough!

  23. The scarf is so lovely! It looks like spring.

  24. Beautiful scarf!

Last thursday was my first day back- and my cat was peeved when I got home- gave me a mild scoldiing-‘and where have you been all day?” She’s old and sleeps a lot, but likes having her human around all day, just in case.

  25. Awwwwwwww, poor Lucy ๐Ÿ™ She’ll miss her Mamma. Be ready to e ither be ignored by or glued to her when u get home!!!

  26. The scarf is really pretty and that gorgeous yarn complements the pattern beautifully.

Hope Lucy wasn’t too lonely and that your day wasn’t too hard. I normally get hundreds of e-mails when I’ve been away from the office for a few days.
