My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Extreme Close-ups and Other Things

These pictures are for a certain pink-obsessed knitter in Stockholm, who requested close-up photos of my Cleite shawl. You want extreme, morbidly close-up photos?

You got ’em, baby.

I’m getting to the point on the shawl where I’m thinking about how many more repeats of the pattern to do. I think I’ll do one more, then take some measurements, stretching it out as I go. The recipient is not terribly tall and I’d hate for her to be swallowed up by her shawl.

Other Things

A couple of you asked what my current phone is.

I’ve got an LG Voyager.

I like it very much and it serves its purpose very well. I’d love to get an iPhone, but as long as they are only offered through AT&T I won’t. My wireless provider, Verizon, is the only one that works in the Washington DC subways system. As long as that is the case, I’m sticking with Verizon!

Shibori Knits

The winner of Shibori Knits is The Knitting Harpy, chosen by the impartial random number generator. You should check out her blog, if you haven’t already — lots of good information there. Thank you to everyone who left a comment.

Why is Lucy So Pensive?

Her mean momma threw out her cardboard playhouse.

Poor, abused little kitty.

  1. Very pretty! Love that pattern.

  2. Lovely pink shawl… poor Lucy…

  3. Poor abused Lucy. Shawl is looking good. I’m really enjoying my lace project. Another addiction to go with my sock knitting addiction.

  4. AWWWWW, Poor Lucy…I did the same thing the other day to the boys so I understand the “abused” kitty comment 🙂 The shawl is very pretty so far I cant wait to see it pinned out and blocking!

  5. I love the shawl! We “abuse” our kitties too… moving them off of comfortable chairs so the humans have a place to sit! Poor kitties! 🙂

  6. Wow Beautiful, Wendy you are the best!!! xoxo Stacy

  7. Your shawl looks very pretty and I’m sure the pink lady will love it.
I clicked on your link and there is way too much information for me.
I, like you, am not well. I prefer to use that energy for my knitting
and frogging. Besides I might learn something.

  8. Sorry, Lucy. Yes, kitties are as bad as children…they have more fun with the box than its contents.

    Beautiful shawl knitting.

  9. Poor Lucy! My boys are having a lazy day, although Simon perked right up when he saw that Lucy was on the blog!
Your shawl is gorgeous. I got the pattern and have queued it up to be done as soon as I find the right yarn. Must organize stash for easier shopping!

  10. I see Lucy has taken over your phone too, well who couldn’t look at her all day anyway?

  11. About the box: good for you :o) I’m certainly not the boss in my house, therefore there is still a shoe box in our living room. It serves as a sort of toy box for our kitties…

  12. I love the shading of that yarn. YUM!!!

  13. That pink is so PINK! Beautiful.

Poor Lucy. Mookie was feeling abused last week, too, because we went on vacation without her. Don’t think she would have liked the boat, though. And we had friends coming in to give her love twice a day. Neglected!

  14. That is gorgeous! That’s the first knitted piece to grab my attention in a long, long time… But before I go and buy the pattern.. can you rate the difficulty level? And the other all important question, is it ONLY chart instructions?

  15. Thank you pink obsesses knitter in Stockholm … I didn’t realize until seeing extreme close-up shots the beautiful pink color of the shawl. (My Flickr name is Pinkknitter, so you might say I am a bit partial to the color). BTW, the shawl is lovely.

Poor Lucy, missing her box. I imagine you got tired of having it in the middle of the floor. Maybe a wild salmon treat will take her mind off of her missing shrine:-).

  16. I love the colour and I think I’m pretty keen on the pattern too. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

  17. The shawl is very pretty and the color is perfect. Glad you could knit on it a bit. Yes poor, poor Lucy. My cats love boxes and small baskets. Congratulation to the winner of the book. That was very kind of you. Have a good day tomorrow.

  18. My cat gets sad when I throw our her play boxes to. Thus, I usually end up keeping them and looking like a crazy cat lady.

  19. Gorgeous shawl! I understand the iphone predicament. I feel the same way. I was particularly frustrated to find out that Apple offered the iphone to Verizon first and they turned it down. Funny–I heard recently that their number of new customers is declining whereas AT&T’s is increasing.

I must say what perfect choice of yarn for that particular pattern.
And you can´t go wrong with pink…

  22. I’m embarrassed to say I too wondered what phone you had when I saw Pinky in the “graveyard.” The shawl is indeed beautiful. And I’d send Lucy a new house, but Calvin has taken up residence in all of them at our place and I can’t bear to take them from him just yet.

  23. Aww, at least Lucy has her teddy to console her. Sprint works on the metro too, so frequent riders do have some choice. That iPhone sure is shiny though…

  24. Oh yeah, she looks soo stressed out.

I say again, ahhh, to be a cat!

When we were redoing our kitchen all of our cabinets came in big cardboard boxes. We weren’t ready to have them put in yet, so we stacked all the boxes in our living room. Luther quicly learned how to climb the “mountain” by jumping from box to box and peering out the window at people who came up our front walk. Thus we began calling him the “mountain lion at the door.”

When we dimantled the pile and installed our cabinetry, he moped for WEEKS. 😀

  25. I thought that yarn was more red than pink, but it’s beautiful either way! Wow.

  26. Maybe Lucy would feel better if you explained that the box was recycled? Is she an environmentally active kitty? My dogs recycle cardboard by eating it, if we give them a chance.
    Pretty shawl!

  27. Love the shawl! The color is so pretty. And congrats to the Harpy. Poor Lucy. She must be all broken up.

  28. Thanks again, Wendy, for the lovely book– I’m very much looking forward to it! And thank you for the very kind words about my blog!

  29. If Lucy is anything like our kitty, she’ll have another one soon enough. I swear that sometimes we buy things just to have the box for the cat for a while.

  30. I have a Voyager too! Just got it a couple of weeks ago, and I’m a big fan so far.
Your shawl is gorgeous- great job! 🙂
At least your cat doesn’t EAT cardboard boxes… mine does.

  31. Yeah, Lucy looks downright abused. Don’t you know it’s her world and you just live in it? Geez, get a clue 🙂

Lauras last blog post..And she’s off!

  32. Lucy losing her cardboard playhouse … well that’s just too sad for words. Is she speaking to you again by now?

I can’t stand the sad look Blu gets in his eyes when I have to pry a prized apple out of his mouth — which he has become very good at sneaking in to the house when he comes in from a “business” run. He likes to bring them in and sit at the bottom of the stair chewing them up on the carpet. Makes quite a mess, but it is his favorite chewing spot for some reason.

Anywhoo … hopefully Lucy is no longer pensive.
