When You Have Nothing to Say . . .

. . . start with a pretty picture.

This was the sky this morning a bit after 7:00am.

After letting it lay dormant for a week, I picked up my Daily Sweater last night and did a bit on it. I’m not yet at the point where I can divide the sleeves and the body, but hopefully it won’t be too much longer until that happy event.

In the meantime, lookie here. That is a link to my friend Keri’s sock-in-progress bags, a new addition at The Loopy Ewe. I am lucky enough to already have one of these bags. See?

(Lucy included fr scale.)

Isn’t it cute? It’s perfect for carrying a sock project around. If you are in the market for a bag of this ilk, I can highly recommend these.

Now, lookie here:

This is a bag of a very precious fiber indeed: Lucy. It is a bit of Lucy fur, loving culled from her plush coat as she was shedding last Spring.

Because I no longer spin, it’s up for grabs. Any of you intrepid spinners want to make Lucy yarn? (Yes, you know I have really lost it when I’n offering up Lucy fur as a give-away).

If you’d like the Lucy fur for your spinning purposes, leave a comment to this post. I’ll pick a recipient at random on Wednesday (October 1).

Lucy sez: “I’d snap it up if I were you.”

  1. I would love the privilege of making Lucy’s sheddings into a soft fine yarn. Spinning cat and dog hair is something I’m a big fan of, and I’m a ragdoll lover. Someday I’ll have my own

  2. You’re going to have your Daily Sweater finished before I cast on. It looks good. I seem to be taking naps during knitting time the last few nights. Hopefully I’ll get back on track.

    I’m glad you’re back. I’ve missed you.

  3. Having been the first to spin Lucy’s fur, I can vouch for the amazing tactile experience it is!

  4. OOH
I’d love to try some Lucy fur.
    That would be special indeed

  5. I’ve been saving my own precious kitties’ shedded fur for future spinning purposes, and I love Lucy! It would be an honor! ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. Actually, Wendy, I think that you should put it up for auction on ebay and see how much someone would be willing to pay for a big bag of cat hair. (Donating the proceeds to charity, of course.)

  11. Love to spin cat fluff! I spin my own cats brushings-I would even send you back a Lucy momento!

  12. I would be honored to have part of Lucy in my home and in my knitting. Tommy saw this and begged that I comment so we could be included in the contest. He asked that if I won that I spin it into yarn to include in a blankie to keep him warm this winter.
Did you put a disclaimer that Lucy isn’t included? I ask because TLE made a point that the yarn was for scale only, and not included.

  13. I will happily spin some Lucy fur – and then return it to you to be knit!

    Aimees last blog post..Damn it!

  14. The sweater is looking great!
the lucy hair looks soft ๐Ÿ˜€

  17. I would be so thrilled to have Lucyfur in my possession. Mmmmm….

  18. I, too, would love to spin some of Lucy’s fur. I agree with Andrea that it could be turned into a donation for an animal charity. Perhaps Capital Animal Care? I think Lucy would be tickled to “give back”. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Hugs to you and Lucy-

  19. Well I don’t spin but I will say your bag is goregous lol.

  20. I can’t believe that you are offering some of Lucy up for grabs. I would squeal with joy if I had the opportunity to use some of Lucy’s beautiful fiber.

Cat fur can be good for something more than a gray haze on a black skirt! Woot!

Great progress on your daily sweater! ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. I have been reading your blog for awhile, but I have never posted
But I would love to get the Lucy fur, I want to learn how to spin, but it would be a gift for a dear friend who spins

  29. Would love to spin some Luciness – please put me in the drawing!

  30. Nice to have you back Wendy! (no spinning for me – I don’t have enough time to knit as it is ๐Ÿ˜‰

  31. Lucy fur yarn! What a nice gift for some lucky person. As much as I’d like to try, it would be just that – trying. I’d rather someone get it who actually knows how to spin cat fur. So hopefully we’ll get to see a picture of the resulting yarn one of these days. I love your sweater, and I especially like your diamond detail.

  32. F0r whoever wins the Lucy fur – I have some of Chief’s fur in a baggie which I have no clue why I started saving it cause I’m not going to spin it. Anyway – I would send this baggie to the winner of Lucy fur if she/he wants a bit more Ragdoll fur. Chief is the same coloring as Lucy and you can check out pics of him on my blog.

  33. Lucy is such a pretty kitty. I bet her fur would be great yarn!

  34. Nice to have you back. Hope you’re doing well.

  35. Oh, I’ve so wanted to spin animal fur! I hope I’m the winner!

  36. I read Lucy Fur as Lucifer. Love those SIP bags.

  37. Thanks a ton Wendy – I’m really glad you like your bag =)

  38. I have been saving my cat’s fur for future spinning as well. I hope whoever get’s Lucy’s fur has fun with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. WOW! I never knew there was such a demand for cat hair… I bet my cats sheds that much each week…. I need to start a blog just to offer all my free cat hair ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Lucy reminds me so much of my Himalayan cat that I had for 14years.
It’s a joy to see photos of Lucy so often.

  41. That is beautiful fiber! Having spun (a very long time ago) from my kitty-an English Tortoiseshell- it’s easier to put it with another fiber, like one does with angora. It is very slippery, but wonderfully soft. Thought I’d share. (Don’t include me, thank you!)
    Blessings always!

  42. Wow. I’ve only just barely taken up spinning, but I would love to have a bag of Lucy’s fur! I’ve always wanted to know if she’s as soft as she looks in her photos.
Missed the blog over the weekend, glad to have you back!

    Gennys last blog post..I wonder…

  43. Oh, it sounds lovely to spinn some Lucy-fur (even though I am not an expert spinner). It would make a beautiful yarn.

  44. Oh…My…Word! Are you seriously offering up LUCY FIBER?? I am SO in…I never win anything, but this? This is serious stuff. My cat bites when I try to groom him, so knitting with his lovely pure black fur is out.

  45. That is hilarious, and wonderful. I had a Maine coon cat that ran off recently, and I miss him lots. I was brushing him with the not-so-secret plan of spinning his fur up sometime. I would spin Miss Lucy instead! Kitteh.

  47. Oh my, I would adore making Lucy fur yarn. I’ve done it with my Kia’s fur, and it is so very very soft.

  48. I would love to try to spin some Lucy fur! I promise to spin it with tender loving care and then knit something extra special with it!

  49. Oh, wow, such pretty fur for spinning! I would love to make Lucy yarn!

mias last blog post..Thanks Secret Pal!

  50. Well, my first impulse was “that’s disgusting,” but then it occured to me how much cat hair I wear already… and the puppy we got yesterday is lying at my feet and he has such soft, silky blonde hair…

    So, yeah, I don’t spin, and I wouldn’t wear somebody else’s cat’s hair, but it’s a cool idea for a prize. ๐Ÿ˜€

  51. I am a new spinner with my first wheel. I would love to try my hand at Lucy, especially since it is the closest I will get to such a pretty cat (we are dog house here).

Missed your blog. Whoever spins Lucy – we want to see the result.
Wendy, Can you remind those of us who weren’t paying attention where to find the Daily Sweater pattern?

  53. I would love to spin Lucy’s fur! I have an Ashford Joy so that would make the yarn Lucy’s Joy!!!!

  54. It’s such a shame you won’t be able to spin Lucy’s fluff. I would love to spin it up for you in any yarn weight of your choice. This way you could still enjoy knitting with her soft fur.:)

  55. Oh dear, I’ll pass on the Lucy fur as I’ve never spun anything in my life. However, whoever wins should show us the end result – too beautiful.

And I love, love, LOVE the pic of Lucy with her splendiferous tail! 2 beautiful!

Your sweater is coming along nicely. Right now, I’m buried in a complex cross stitch project for a friend’s child. It’s fun and I can only hope I’ll have it done by Xmas!

  56. Donna Jensen says:

Just the thought of having the chance to spin some Lucy fur has me all a twitter. She is such a beautiful cat and appears to be totally infatuated with her life with you. From reading your blog regularly Lucy appears to love the camera as much as she loves your knitting. Lucy fur would make a lovely warm sharf to keep you warm this winter.

  57. I would love to spin it! But, only if I can send it back to you. You can keep it as a memento or knit it into something.

  58. Your sweater is really coming along. It’s beautiful. I still haven’t picked a copy of the book, so I can’t join the knit-a-long. A book that came in the mail yesterday, though, is a joy to me. i am halfway done with it, already. That fantabulous book is Wendy Knits. I’ve been reading it, and knitting non stop. I love it.

  59. Would love, love, love to spin Lucy hair.

  60. I am sorry to hear that you are no longer spinning. Do you just find yourself more drawn to the knitting, and the spinning interest has faded? Or is it the fact that you already have a lovely big yarn stash that you don’t really care to add spinning stash to it? Just wondering where your spinning mojo went… you did seem to make some lovely yarns.

Take care, and I hope that somebody makes something lovely from Lucy’s fluff.

  61. At first, I thought this idea was admittedly a bit weird… but the color is gorgeous and Lucy looks so sweet and soft — I’d love a shot at spinning some of her fur!

  63. Someone is going to be very lucky, indeed. Lucy is sooo gorogeous. I love reading about her and seeing your beautiful knitting. I only knit in the winter, but have never knit a sock, so I really admire your skill. I have a beautiful rescued Ragdoll named Izzy and have been collecting her fur for over almost 2 years now, but don’t get much at a time from her. I’m saving this post in hopes that I can find a spinner here to knit up some yarn from my cats’ fur. I have a bag of white, a bag of black, and a bag of Izzy fur. Can you imagine – if I had Lucy’s fur, I could combine it with Izzy’s and have it spun in the not too distant future. What a thrill that would be.

  64. I love it when you use Lucy for scale! I would offer to spin her fur for you, but I am allergic. Funny, huh, since I have four cats right now. ๐Ÿ™‚

  66. Ooh, Iยดd love to try to spin Lucy-hair ๐Ÿ™‚

  67. I know that I am very late for the drawing—oh the joys of the Jewish Holidays. I would rather have your spinning implements (wheel) than Lucy fur. I love Lucy, but I have Motorboat to spin. lol Just giving you a giggle.

  68. Uh, I must’ve missed a post or two *ahem*…
    you NO LONGER SPIN??????
