Holiday Road Kill

What I saw as I approached my office door this morning:

Is that not the saddest wreath you’ve ever seen?

And here is a very good reason why our office is infested with vermin — I spotted this on the floor near the door:

It has been mentioned (by me and by others) more than once that if people would not leave food lying around, we would likely not have to put up with traps of various configurations in our office. Do they listen? Why, no, they don’t.

And third in a series of random photos, what happens to my hair when it rains:

I blow-dried and straightened before I left home this mornig but it was raining today. Despite my umbrella, that is what I looked like when I got to work.

Here’s what it looked like when I got home:

The true color is somewhere in between those two pictures. The color has deepened slightly since I henna-ed and I love it.

Lucy is ignoring me because she thinks I am acting silly!

  1. The thought of mice around would make me not want to eat in the office at all! Any thoughts on acquiring an office kitty? I’m sure there is some nice adult cat in a shelter who would be happy to help.
Your hair is wild in the first photo!

  2. In my haste to be the first to comment, (I never have anywhere before, should I now buy a lotto ticket?) I neglected to mention Lucy looks adorable as usual.
And that cookie looks suspiciously deliberate. Perhaps there lurks a rodent lover in your office. I smell a rat.

  3. You didn’t mention Lucy being on the news this morning…

itgirls last blog post..what it is i’m always thinkin’ ’bout i’ll have the usual

  4. Testimonial, testimonial!

This is off subject of today’s blog, but I was searching around for a pattern for fingerless mitts to put in my daughters’ and granddaughter’s Christmas stocking and up popped your pattern. Let me tell you all if you are looking for something quick easy, using up leftover yarns go to Wendy’s pattern. Takes very little yarn and next to no effort. I used some sport weight and sock yarn combined. In two short afternoons I had a pair done. On to the next pair. Thank you Wendy. My boys Billy and Neil send love to Lucy.

  5. You know, it’s too bad that we actually need rain… My hair is currently too scary to photograph. I would break the camera.

If I were Queen of All Things, rainy days when I have to leave the hous would be outlawed. Period.

  7. Cats are totally embarrassed by silly human behavior. Don’t even go there!

  8. Love the hair. I’ve always wanted hair that color, but I would look ridiculous! I don’t have the right skin tone.

Yep, we had the same situation in a department I worked in years ago – everyone WANTED to eat in the office, but some were such slobs – leaving food around, opened containers of crackers and other assorted crap- that we finally had to put the kabosh on it. Too many small furry creatures (not cats either) running around making free in our workspace – defectating, etc. TMI, I know.

My kitties frequently ignore me. They feel I’m good for filling up the food dishes and cleaning out the their box, but making sense – nahhhhh!

  9. Why is it people can’t get the most basic of concepts.

Some day I might share a pic of the top of my head. It’ll make you very very glad for your beautiful full head of hair. Trust me. The opposite is no picnic either.

You have me seriously considering the henna thing. I’m intrigued.

shellys last blog post..Clean or Blog, you mean there is a CHOICE???

  10. The only way I know my cat acknowledges my exsitance is him ignoring me. Hmmm I would consider the henna, but don’t know how to find the time to do it. Yup that’s why you can see my grey….time.

  11. I know it may be (probably is) bothersome, but do you know what those of us with stick straight limp hair would give for some natural body? I’m certain you had to clip it back or knot it up today, but oh gee, what I’d give for that problem….

  12. I am a librarian at a business college. When I came in this morning the library was infested with ornaments. At least your sad little wreath does not plug in and light up.
Forget the blowdrying. Get a layered cut and let the curl show. That’s what I do, and it looks great – sort of like your second photo, although a good deal redder. You can do a lot in the extra time made available in the morning.

  13. Just remind Lucy that she grooms her coat.

  14. I just LOVE the way curly/wavy hair grows and expands in the rain! I’m getting a layered cut next week to try to work with the curl. Good luck with the unwanted fur visitors – as long as people eat at their desks, the little critters will stop by for any leftover crumb. Keeping all food in metal containers and through daily vacumming is the only hope, but nearly impossible in a federal building.

  15. I really like that henna color… very pretty.

  16. Dude. Volume.

(I had this sudden “if you give a mouse a cookie…” moment.)

  17. I love. the. hair. I’m with Shelly up there, my hair is so sadly thinned out, it’s part envy/jealousy when I see your thick head o’ hair! But you crack me up!
I got my henna sample in the mail, but now I don’t even want to be all cautious-ey, I want to just give it a go!

  19. People are so inconsiderate. it’s pretty sad, but at my University, it’s likely worse. I’ve worked cleanup at the bistro and at the dining hall and I would swear their parents never raised them. “someone will clean it for me” is the worst mindset i’ve ever seen.

    Your hair looks really nice!

  20. lol, poor wreath! hey maybe we’re related…the hair thing! although by the end of a damp or humid day my curls are serious ringlets like from some victorian era!

  21. WOW!!! I love your wild and fantastic hair!! My friend has hair like that, only blond, and it “grows” in the rain or the humidity. She complains I think it is great!! Now you all will think me certifiable but I rescued a little brown mouse one of my shop kitties brought me. Eyes still closed, I nursed her with and eye dropper and now she is just such a cutie. She has huge brown ears and big eyes, with the cutest little pink nose!!! Don’t worry she is containes but loves her ears and belly scratch!!

  22. I’ve got ‘humid hair’ — not unlike yours today, which I love — and ‘dry hair,’ which is what I’ve got now, because Iowa winters are so freakin’ dry. Oh — and that cookie doesn’t look like an accident. I mean, an accident is some crumbs laying around. But how could anyone miss the fact that they dropped an entire cookie???

  23. Beautiful colour – especially in the “at home” photo.

  24. Hee hee! I shouldn’t laugh, but I share your frizzy pain…

We have the same problem here at work. I was logging in to my laptop one morning, and was joined by a cockroach ambling across my phone. The fumigators (sp?) found a NEST in someone’s locked desk drawer. Nice.

  25. Thanks for the chuckle – you made my day.

  26. That wreath does look sad, and the cookie on the floor — well, that is just so odd that someone could drop an entire cookie and either not notice or not care.

You are so funny with the photos of your hair, the color must pretty.

Hope you and Lucy are having a nice roll up to the holidays.

    Warmest wishes,

  27. Oh Man! They’re supposed to EAT the cookie, not throw it on the ground!!! Totally wasted. 😉

I like the color of your hair in the second picture. You could actually have that color and look great. Not many people could.

    Hi Lucy!

  28. Your hair looks wonderful! but I have finally decided to enjoy my lovely silver hair and to respsect the environment. It has only taken me 55 years to reach this decision since finding my first grey hair aged 17. You’ll get their one day! Best wishes Jane

  29. Oh, I truly LOL’d at the poor pathetic wreath on the floor. Christmas is tired and defeated already! And the blog post title was perfect. Still laughing, actually.

  30. Wow. I think that your hair is the same color as mine… which is amazing since everyone thinks that mine is amazing and cant ever get it out of a bottle. I may have to suggest henna to my mom!

    It looks great hun!

  35. Okay, excuse me, but a whole cookie? I swear this person’s relatives must work in my office too. I’m not even going to discuss our coffee pot situation, but I have sworn to myself that I will no longer do KP duty, no matter how bad it gets in that area, unless it’s a mess I made myself. There are no children in our office 8 hours a day, and I refuse to clean up after a bunch of grownups in the same boat I’m in.
