My current work in progress:

Roscalie Cardigan by Alice Starmore, knit from Jamieson’s Shetland SpindriftΒ  on a US 3 needle

Waterfall Socks Pattern

I have finalized the Waterfall Socks pattern and it is available here in pdf format. It is linked to from my “Free Patterns” page as well.

And in a fit of efficiency, I’ve listed it in Ravelry, here, so you can queue it if you so desire.

That reminds me, I’ve listed my Sign of Spring socks in Raveltry as well, here. The Sign of Spring pattern is available for sale at The Loopy Ewe, by the way.

About that shop . . .

I of course have had no response from the shop that is selling my free pattern as part of a kit. The reader who alerted me to the situation will go back and check in a few days to see if they are still selling it, and if so, I’ll identify the shop here on my blog, since a number of you asked.

I was wondering if I had misunderstood, but I am told that the pattern looks like it was printed directly from my website and has my name on it, my phot0, and (get this) even my copyright notice.

Giving them a few days to respond and stop selling the pattern I think covers the “Duh, I didn’t know I couldn’t print free patterns off the internet and re-sell them” scenario. Yeah.

Lookie What I Have . . .

This is a real live honest-to-goodness copy of my upcoming book. Publication date is April 14. If I had more than one, I’d give a copy away. Really. But at this point I have just one advance copy — I’ll get my author’s copies in a few weeks.

I am so pleased with how this book has turned out. The phot0graphy is just lovely and I think there’s a little something for everyone in it, sockwise, that is.

Here’s the back cover:

Lucy is so excited she is all a-twitter. See?

  1. Congratulations!!!! What a huge acomplishment. Must be very cool to be holding the first copy of your very own book. I have also pre-ordered and can’t wait for it to arrive.

Thanks so much for the pattern! You are wonderful to share it with us!

    Give Lucy a big hug!

  2. The book looks absolutely gorgeous! It must be pretty thrilling to hold a real, live copy in your hands after all the work that goes into something like that πŸ™‚

I hope things work out with the yarn store quickly!

  3. Thank you for the sock pattern. I am eagerly anticipating getting your new book. πŸ™‚

How exciting to actually hold a copy of your book! I’ve had it on pre-order for a while now. Can’t wait to get my own!

  5. I can’t wait to get a copy of your new sock book. Publication date is my birthday so that will be a wonderful present to myself. I think it is absolutely horrible that a shop is cheating with your patterns. The shop owner must know better and if he/she doesn’t probably shouldn’t be in business! Congratulations on your new book.

  6. Your book looks beautiful, congratulations!

  7. Many thanks for the new pattern. I’ve started on socks just recently, thanks to some toe-up instructions from you, so am looking forward to getting your book. I think your approach around the yarn shop is pretty sensible and laidback, considering how annoying this is. May, of course, be a “teachable moment” for the store owner – I find people often just don’t understand about copyright.

  8. Since my birthday’s on April 18th, my order will come just in time to make a great present! Thanks for the Waterfall socks pattern, too. I’ve got some lovely Schaefer Anne that would great in that pattern.

  9. Lucy Twitters? Who knew? You didn’t tell us she had opposable thumbs πŸ˜‰

Congrats on the book! I also want to know if you’ll be doing a local signing, or if I’ll need to have you sign it at the Spring Fling? …Oh, and I happened to get the same color of Mini Mocchi, so maybe I should use it for Waterfall Socks!

  11. Really looking forward to getting your new book – I’ve had it on order for months. Cheers

  12. OH! I can’t wait for my book!! ok – I guess I’ll have to….. C’mon April!

  17. I am probably years away from knitting socks, but the front and back design are just fantastic. Congratulations — you must be so proud of yourself! I think I’ll buy a few copies for the more advanced knitters in my life as a gift — do you think I’ll get a pair made for me then? πŸ™‚

  18. I read through most of these comments because I was curious what was being said about the shop that was “selling” your patterns. I guess the laws around that kind of stuff are iffy depending on the state, however, I wanted to comment on the fact that I personally would like to know who it is because I would like to know who to avoid going to.

For anyone who does creative things, and at times gets paid for them, you learn what the rules are. Regardless of whether you yourself (the author) have published the pattern for free and in the public domain, the shop that included the pattern still needed to at least ask.

I’m sorry you’re going through all of this nonsense, but on a side note, I’m rather excited about your book too! πŸ˜€

  23. First, congratulations on your new book — it looks gorgeous.

I don’t think you’re mean to publish the name of the shop. I think that the public, in general, is too cavalier about copyright issues. If creative people don’t have the right to protect their work, we’ll all lose!

  24. Thank you so much for the free pattern. I can’t wait to get your new book!
    Your patterns are beautiful.

  25. Wendy, thanks for including a “small” size in this sock pattern. It’s a very pretty pattern!

  26. ooh! I know what i’m asking for as an anniversary gift. what a great day for the book to be released.
