My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

You guys are great! I think the post where I’ve offered giveaways of my book has the highest number of comments I’ve ever gotten on a single post.

The Random Number Generator has spoken! The three recipients for the book giveaway are:

Sharon Rose

I have emailed you three — congratulations!

And of course a huge thank you to everyone who left a comment!

But Wait! There’s More!

I’m giving away one more copy of my book on Plurk. Post a reply to this Plurk conversation by 4:00pm EDT Tuesday, March 31 and I’ll pick a name at random. (You can join up if you aren’t already a member by following the first link.)

And I Do Still Knit a Little

Here is the first of the current sock project, modeled on the KOARC’s manly foot.

And a closer look:

Work has commenced on the second sock!

Charity Walk: Delaware TaTa Savers

My Plurk-buddy Janice is doing a 3-day Breast Cancer Walk in Philadelphia and is determined to raise $5000. These are tough times, but if you can possibly spare a few dollars, please consider donating to her cause. She is raffling off some fabulous prizes to people who donate. Check out the blog she set up for the event, here. I’ve donated a signed copy of my new book, along with a skein of Wollmeise. Kind of like a sock knitting kit. Just add needles. ๐Ÿ™‚

Back at Home

Lucy is selecting a DVD.

  1. I can’t believe that I’m first to comment!

I’m very sad that I didn’t get your new book, but geeze, how many comments did you get? Is that a record?

What a great indicator for future book sales! Alert the media!

And since you’re going to Oklahoma, how about a stop Austin? It’s just down the road a piece … I’ll take you to the Alamo Drafthouse ( for a bad movie and beer.

  2. I really like those socks. What can I say….I think I like just about every one of you socks. I have noticed a slight change though, I think, more of your socks have been knit with semi-solid colored yarn. Which is my preference. Is this a concious change on your part?

  3. Love the manly socks! Only a few more weeks until the book release and the Spring Fling. I can’t wait!

  4. I don’t think I’ll win it on Plurk either (have entered though).
But if I don’t, I’ll most likely go buy it. I really want to master doing toe-up in a way that I like. So far I’ve had the most problems with the heel. Don’t really like doing the toes either (I actually like the kitchener stitch!) but I haven’t figured out why…

    Love the man socks!

  5. Very nice socks! I think I’ll go on a sock kick this year and really learn how to knit socks in all the various ways. I’m on the lookout for patterns that I want to try, and that’s a nice one for a solid-colored sock.

  6. I had a girlfriend who did all of the three-day walks a few years ago. She still does at least one or two every year.

  7. Congrats winners!!!!!

I still love the sock. So much knitting, so little time ๐Ÿ™‚

The manly socks are great, like all of your designs.

Lucy is probably selecting “The parrots of Telegraph Hill”. Good choice.

  16. Congratulations to the three winners, sadly not me, but I am good I pre-ordered my copy anyway. Wendy you are so generous giving away as many things as you do.

  26. Hi Wendy,

  30. The Breast Cancer 3-Day is something that’s very, very close to my heart (I’ve walked six of them and crewed one – in Philadelphia, in fact). I’m crewing the DC walk this year, and I’m already supporting a co-worker, but I can always find a few more dollars to help somebody meet her goal and participate in this amazing event.

  31. congrats winners!

  32. I loved doing the breast cancer walk (gosh, it is at least 5 years ago), so I’ll go and donate after pay day (most important date).

I’m glad that your book is getting such a good response. I have my eyes set on one after mid-June along with more sock yarn from the Loopy Ewe!

  33. My sister is doing a breast cancer walk at the end of this month in April. I just donated everything that I can spare right now for her, so I guess that’s ok, since it is going to the same cause… and a very good cause it is.

  34. What I meant to say was at the end of April in Denver…my brain got a bit ahead of my fingers, i think!

  35. WOw- I just stumbled on your website I love your socks. I always knit socks from the toe up now and have even started doing mittens this way. I’m on a year of socks adventure right now so I am going to check in with your blog frequently. What’s my adventure- I didn’t know what to give my son for X-mas so I devised a sock club just for him. I am knitting a pair of socks every month for him till next X-mas. I am currently working on May’s sock and have visions of what I want June’s sock to look like. June will be some of the left over April yarn for the toes a watery blue meeting a sandy color in a wave pattern- so he can tip his toes in the “pond”.

  36. Congratulations too on being one of the few people who actually gave me a reason to want to join Plurk. I didn’t join, but I came very, very close when I read about the other giveaway. lol

Thanks also for the tip on closing sock holes.
