Argus Shawlette

As I mentioned yesterday, I finished the shawlette that I was working on last week on Saturday evening.

Here it is in its unblocked state.

Cat included for scale. Unblocked, it measures a petite 40″ across the top and 20″ down the center back.

And here it after blocking.

It now measures a surprising 54″ across the top, and 25″ down the center back. And it took under 350 yards of fingering weight yarn. Madelinetosh Tosh Sock, in the Baltic colorway, to be exact. I used a U.S. size 5 (3.75mm) needle.

I’ve named this design the Argus Shawlette. Here it is being modeled by Gwendolyn:

And another:

I’m working on the pattern for this baby even as we speak. It’s very easy to knit and a nice speedy project.

Help for Haiti

Today I went into my Ravelry Pattern Store and have edited all the patterns there to reflect that from now through January 31, 2010 I am donating 50% of my profits from all Ravelry pattern sales to Doctors Without Borders.

Lucy sez:

“Zzzzzzzzzz . . . “

  1. I am soooo knitting that shawlette as one of my 10 shawls in 2010!!

  2. Love Argus!
Just went ahead and bought the Exonumist-pattern, might use it as a tablecloth, think I’ll get some kind of cover for it before I use it though.
    .-= Rose-Marie´s last blog ..What a diffrence a year makes =-.

  3. Gwendolyn has a new base coat, er, sweater….doesn’t she? Have we seen that beauty before?

  4. Rosemary Johnson says:

I am loving all the shawls. This one is gorgeous…probably beyond my knitting ability, but gorgeous! And having Lucy included for scale just enhances the experience for me!

  5. anne marie in philly says:

I am curious about the sweater underneath the argus shawlette…

(tiptoes away so as not to awaken the sleeping lucy)

  6. Kate Lathrop says:

WANT WANT WANT!!!! I want a Wendy shawlette to wear with my Wendy socks at the Fling! Of course I could knit myself a Stacy Shawl with her yarn and have a two-fer but I LOVE this pattern!

  7. Yep, it’s a keeper! Gwendolyn looks lovely in blue. I’ve already purchased Exonumist’s, so I hope the Argus is on Ravelry before the 31st! I love Doctors Without Borders. They’re helping around the world every day, not just in emergencies.
.-= Cathie Jones´s last blog ..Sea of Cortez =-.

  8. I love the shawlette as always and of course Lucy Lou! Wow that place you taught at was amazing. …..I did not check out the cost but I can imagine it would be very pricey to stay there.

  9. Love the shawlette and am waiting for the pattern with clicking needles.

  10. I am in love with knitting shawlettes in fingering weight yarn. This one is pretty awesome. I am very tempted.
    .-= Susan´s last blog ..I think I can, I think I can… =-.

  11. Ok, the cat included for sale thing made me snarf. AND IT WAS SELTZER.

(but the shawl is beautiful. And that did not make me snarf.)
.-= Virginia´s last blog ..In with the new! =-.

  12. fibercrone says:

…… really looking forward to the Argus pattern. Thanks for sharing the pattern monies with DWB.

  13. Any idea when the wimple pattern will be available? Can’t wait….anxious to knit it. Can’t find anything like it anywhere else!

  14. That is the prettiest shawlette I have seen in a long time, and the yarn is really perfect!

  15. Thank you for your generosity in offering your patterns and benefiting Doctors Without Borders at the same time.

Just a thought – would it be possible for you to allow people to purchase your patterns ‘bundled’ (all 6 patterns in one transaction) and pay a surcharge to further benefit DWB?

  16. Very nice. I definitely love the single skein sock yarn projects. If only everything could be knit that way!
    .-= Seanna Lea´s last blog ..victor v. saru-chan =-.

  17. I am an unusually slow knitter or you are a speed demon on the knitting. I’ve never considered myself slow though. How do you manage to finish such lovely shawls in so little time and your work is so beautiful without flaws. Do you have a magic formula or a secret you can share?

  18. crazycrafter says:

This is SO pretty! Can’t wait for the pattern!

  19. I really like this Argus! Esp., the yo’s that branch out from the midline. Looking forward to the pattern.

  20. That shawlette is SO absolutely beautiful. I just wish someone I knew wore shawls.

  21. Thanks for letting us help Haiti while we knit- two new patterns joined my files from your list.

  22. Wow,so great !!Very nice indeed!! =)
