My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

Because knitting an intricate cabled sock in a dark yarn seems more than I can handle for the moment, I’ve started another easy shawlette.

Film at eleven.

Thanks for all your good wishes. I’ve been to the spine doc and have an order to get an MRI, and a boatload of pain meds. So we are hanging in there.

Lucy sez:

“Come play with me?”

  1. I have an order for an MRI for the shoulder. No “good” meds, though, since I’m allergic. Oh well–it will be good to know what we are dealing with! Good luck to you, and I hope they can figure yours out!

  2. Shirley. in PA says:

Oh Wendy, you went through so much the last time you back had you down. I hope the doctors can help you. That photo of Lucy is gorgeous. I wish I could play with her. 🙂

  3. Gentle hugs and well wishes to you! Back pain is the pits.

  4. I hope your back gets better! I love that you are going through a “blue” period in your knitting projects. 🙂 I like the new lace – pretty little hearts.

  5. I would definitely come play with lucy.

Here’s to the hope that the pain meds will help for the time being. Good luck with the MRI!

  6. Poor Lucy. It’s always the children who suffer when their parents are ill.
As my dogs will tell you after I oppressed them yesterday because of a migraine.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

  7. I am so hopeful you’ll be feeling better soon. Lucy looks concerned though. Love the new shawlette–is this one of your own invention or a pattern?

  8. Yeeeouch!! I hope you get all sorted out soon and the back pain makes with the get-lost of it all sooner, rather than later!

Lucy looks just beautiful in that picture, with her tail just ever-so-slightly curling. Sneakers The Ancient, of the Abbreviated Tail says, “Hello!”.

  9. Sure hope it’s nothing serious. Love your easy shawls 🙂

  10. Ooh, pain meds.
I hope Lucy is a good nurse.

  11. Good to hear from you! Hope things go well.

  12. glad you’re getting care and sound a tiny bit better than Sunday. Hope it all continues to improve!!

  13. So sorry to hear of your discomfort! Am sending comforting pain-free thoughts to you! Luv.m.

  14. Hope the pain meds work! Like mehitabel, I’m allergic. Doc keeps trying new stuff, but I have a boatload of drugs that I can’t use.

Love the color and pattern of the new shawl. Is it your design? Is it available now, or new? I ordered more yarn from Loopy and will need something to do with it. (That is the way it works, right?)

  15. Kathy M in SE VA says:

Been where you are and it’s definitely the worst place ever. Do hope the docs figure out the problem. I’m sure you’re being circumspect with the pain meds; you do have Lucy to look after. I’m sure she’s helping with therapudic cuddling (when she deems it’s cuddle time). Take care. km

  16. Oh Wendy, I’m so sorry. I was hoping you would be much better by now. Take care of yourself.

steven and meredith say: “meow, cousin lucy, we would LOVE to come play with you!”

  18. Ouch. Feel better! Pain meds: good. Simple knitting: better.

  19. Does Lucy understand why you can’t play? Will she cuddle with you instead?

    Get better soon!

  20. So sorry you have to endure this. You continue to be in my prayers. Let Lucy give you lots of love. It really does help. 🙂

  21. Hope the pain meds & extra love from Lucy will help you feel a bit better!

  22. Take care of yourself and snuggle with that beautiful kitty! She likes having mama home – that’s one bright spot!

  23. Hope your back feels better soon! That fish toy looks like it’s knitted until I enlarge the image – what a great idea for a cat toy pattern!

  24. Vicki Mihajlich says:

You’ve been in my thoughts all day. I hope it goes well for you, Wendy. I’m glad you’re getting an MRI. Make sure they look at the whole area. My doctor had them do one vertebrae and it wasn’t a damaged one so I came back clear! One of those things that make you want to smack somebody >.< Three bones above the one they took a picture of were fractured.

    Best wishes,

  25. I just Nurse Lucy is taking care of you and I hope you are on the mend soon!! Good luck with the MRI. You might actually need a Mylagram………………not real pleasant but it will definitely show where the problem is. Hugs to you and Lucy!!

  26. Poor Lucy — the kids never seem to understand when mama is under the weather….

:::::::::::::: >^.^< "meeeow" (Hope you feel better, mom!) :::::::::::::

    Take care of yourself, Wendy!

  27. Are you sure this back pain stuff isn’t contagious? I’ve been referred to a neurosurgeon and loaded up with pain meds while waiting for my MRI appointment. I hate the incapacitation (is that a word) that back pain causes more than the pain itself, I think. And if I have to have surgery again (had major spinal cord surgery…yup, didn’t want to hear “oops!”…10 years ago) I will definitely not be a happy camper! Hope the doc can fix your problem without surgery. You are in my prayers.

  28. Glad to hear the doc took you seriously. Remember, for comfort take the pain med and apply a warm cat!

    Gentle hugs!

  29. Gentle hugs sent your way…..I’ve been there. I hope they find the cause quickly and can remedy it just as quickly.

  30. I’m glad to hear that you’re moving toward some answers and, hopefully, relief.

  31. Poor baby! Hang tough…pain is the worse! Hope it is nothing that rest and anti-inflammatories can’t handle with time.

  32. I always know when I’m really not well when it stands in the way of my knitting. Do take care. After all, you have certain standards of spoiling the petite princess to maintain!

With best wishes from me and all of my four-footed friends,

    Vicki Stammer

  33. Boo that your back is acting up. We struggle with back pain in our house, and the world pretty much come to a screeching halt out of necessity.

    Hope it eases soon.

  34. Dear Wendy, I know very well what back pain means! Wich you all the best!
    – Marta (always reading you, even if not commenting)

  35. Yikes, Wendy! I’m sure this sucks in a major way. Hang in there, and take good care of you and Lucy! That’s a cute little fish she has there.

  36. I hope your back gets better. I had a bad back early last year, and I’m hoping that was the last I have seen of it. It is a miserable experience!

  37. crazycrafter says:

Love the yarn color! Glad you are feeling better. Blessings and happy knitting,
    Hannah, age 12

  38. You just don’t deserve to be having this happen again, hon…I’m thinking of you! (and I know none of us “deserves” such things, but still – you’ve been through enough!)
    That blue yarn looks luscious!

  39. Sending you healing thoughts and warms hugs…………Hope you feel better soon……

  40. Wendy,
I JUST had this exact same thing! I’m still going through it and dang it hurts! You can see on my blog what mine was/is. Had the MRI, CT scan, etc… The meds are what really get ya. I hate those things! Instead of making the pain go away, they just make me not care that I’m in pain. Sheesh! I hope you feel better soon, and things work out. Thinking of you! (Long time lurker here…)
