My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Magic Yarn

I love Rowan Calmer, and I think it is working very well with my cabled design.

There was a comment on my last post remarking on how neat my columns of knit stitches were.

I credit the yarn for this. Calmer has a nice stretch to it that makes it very forgiving. It works very well for cabled work.

There was also a question about the stitch I used on either side of the larger center panel.

Those are simply 2×2 cables, with the cable twists worked on every right-side row.

Book News

I noticed the other day that the German translation of my first sock book, Socks From the Toe Up, is available, and has been for a while. I knew a German translation was in the works, but didn’t know exactly when.

And look what is available for pre-order on the U.S. Amazon.

“Do not disturb . . . “

  1. I’m excited about the book and have put it into my wish list on Amazon!

  2. OHAI — somehow I had missed the last 2 blog posts, so went back to read them and look at the pretty pictures.

I did not, however, miss the new project and immediately trotted to Amazon to pre-order it. You must read our minds. I wanted to knit socks – – and there you were! I want lace patterns — and here you come again! How lucky are we to have your expertise?

    Is it August yet???

  3. Your knitting is very neat, as is the lovely Lucy ^..^
Looks like a great book; wonder when it’ll be available on amazon uk

  4. Congrats! Bookmarked it already, can`t wait to get it! The german translation is very good, I have made two pairs already. And I love it!

  5. Funny about Calmer. It’s my kryptonite for exactly the reason you love it – the elasticity magnifies any imperfections in my gauge. It’s a love it or hate it yarn, I think.

  6. A lace book? Who would’ve thought? wow! However did you manage to knit even more stuff than you blogged? sign me up for a copy, I might just have to break down and learn lace this summer.

  7. I’m looking forward for the new book. Wish it were sooner. You are great.

  8. I thought it was going to be a shawl book! This will do. Can’t wait to see it.

  9. anne marie in philly says:

DAYUM! added to the amazon wish list! (does a happy dance) AND it will be available before my birthday rolls around! 🙂

  10. Ooh, I look forward to your lace book! I’m more than halfway through knitting your Transverse Shawl and I absolutely love it! Easy pattern, goes fast, gorgeous lace border – what’s not to like?!? I’ll post photos soon on ravelry. I may have to make more than one of these. The pattern is really well-written.

  11. A Lace Book! How Wonderful! I’m really looking forward to this one. And what a surprise – considering all those lace shawls and “Myriad Stealth Projects” 😉

  12. Congrats on the listing. This will be such a cool book. I can’t wait to get it.

Also love the look of your cables. May just have to try the Rowan calmer.

  13. Yippy a new book from Wendy…..Ran over to Amazon and it is ordered!

  14. I may need to move that Calmer Aran up higher in my mental queue. Yours is awesome!

  15. A lace book? Hooray! August is too far away!

  17. Oops, I hit send too soon.

I’m so excited because – dare I say it? – it sounds like your latest book is not about socks… I’m pre-ordering.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

  18. Oh Wendy you are such a delightful tease to give us this book link! But of course I already have the lace book in my shopping cart at! It’s like a Christmas present, but it will come kinda late! 😉 Congratulations on another sure-to-be-a-hit book!

And I agree about Calmer ~ such a NUMMY yarn!

Love Lucy! Reminds me of a dear member of my family.

  19. very excited about this new book! Ah Lucy you sweet little girl!!!

  20. I was thinking it might be shawls, or lace! Love the Calmer Aran.

My kitty has the do not disturb sign up now too.

  21. I make my own (sometimes very intricate) patterns for sweaters and socks and I’ve done some very complicated Fair Isle and intarsia work, but I’ve always been lace-challenged. It seems to be a question of focus… have to lock myself in the bathroom to make certain my train of thought isn’t interrupted, and I live alone. That said, ever since you posted pics of your “wing-o’-the-moth” shawl, I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. Today I bought the pattern and I’m going to give it a go. I’m curious to know what you did that gave your edging so much personality. The edging in the pattern pic, while lovely, can’t hold a candle to yours.

  22. Congratulations on the new book being released next year! Can’t hardly wait to get my hands on it to add to my “Wendy” collection . . . .

  23. I don’t remember which book or site I saw it on, but I’ve seen lots of things suggesting Calmer makes beautiful cable work (It might have been Pleasures of Knitting), but it is still great seeing undoctored photographic evidence! Obviously I need more than 7 skeins of this stuff.

Like other commenters, I think August 2011 is AWFULLY far away!

I finally started a pair of socks (Serpentine) from your first book. Normally I knit top down and figured working through a few of your well written patterns might help me become sock-ambidextrous (so to speak). Having fun so far. 🙂

  25. Oohhh, a lace book! (jumping up and down). Congratulations! Can’t wait for this one – I’m sure it will be fabulous!

  27. I saw the translation of your book a couple of days ago in the bookshelf of a shop here in my town Wendy! I wanted to teke a picture for you but unfortunately I had forgotten my iPhone in the car 🙁

August 2011, ack for the ADHD of us .. that’s like feaking forever……I’ll have to put it on my wish list, I’ll never be able to remember.

Congratulations, Wendy! That makes your fifth title, eh? Quite an impressive shelf’s worth of contribution to the craft. Many thanks for your continuing generosity of skill and spirit!
