Waiting for Snow

It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for the big storm that is supposed to hit the area today. Forecasters keep pushing back the start time — apparently this storm is just creeping up the east coast, taking its time. At the moment there are just a few flurries out there.

We had a lovely holiday here and we hope you did too. I did very little knitting on my Calmer Aran because I’ve got some sekret knitting that is due the middle of January, so I worked on that over Christmas. But here is the front of my aran:

Maybe I’ll take a break from the sekret knitting today to work on it a bit.

And here is a photo essay of Lucy’s Christmas.

She opened one present on Christmas Eve:

(Thank you, Sharon!)

Then she settled down to sleep.

She had a lot of fun with the wrapping paper on Christmas morning:

And she was delighted with the needle-felted mouse firefly sent to her. Thank you, firefly!

Later, she seemed to be trying to hatch it.

(Note that she is keeping her fuzzy rat close by as well.) This was after she sampled the organic catnip her Daddy gave her. 😉

By noon she looked like this:

There’s only so much excitement a little kitty can handle.

Stay warm!

  1. The snow has left here. Sun is shining so somewhere in Virginia there is snow.

  2. I hope you Christmas was as exciting as Lucy’s!

  3. Stay warm and safe. Those cables look totally amazing.
Stacy Little´s last blog post ..Awesome!!!

  4. Hi Wendy,

Be patient and he snow will get there. I live in metro Atlanta and for the first time since 1882, we got snow for Christmas! Granted, it was only 1.2 inches but enough to cause traffic problems. We have very little snow removal equpment in this area.

Your aran sweater is gorgeous and rivals any Alice Starmore sweater I’ve seen. I am glad Lucy had such a nice Christmas too!

    Merry Christmas!

  5. The snow is falling and blowing and swirling here and painting a winter wonderland!
    Hope it reaches you soon!
Love the Lucy pics most of all!

  6. When I grow up I want to be able to knit as well as you. I wish I had the brain for designing that you do.
    Lynda´s last blog post ..WOW!!!

  7. Said storm headed your way is packing more punch than it was supposed to — in Iowa we woke up on Friday morning with 8″, and two more deposited throughout the day! Enjoy!

  8. Awwww, tuckered out after all that excitement! Happy rest of the holiday to you. I got a special surprise: your little deck of cards! PERFECT size; now I just have the decision of where to start! Love it.

  9. looks like Lucy had a great day ^..^

  10. It looks like the snow is just missing us, Wendy. I live just south of you in Woodbridge, and all we’ve gotten is a light dusting, and the weather radar shows the snow just off to our east. So a lot of people are going to get buried in snow, but not the D.C. area, at least not D.C. proper and areas west and south.

Your sweater is coming along beautifully! You’re inspiring me to knit another complex Aran; it’s been years since I did, but there’s just nothing more satisfying than seeing the patterns grow on the needles, is there? Except seeing Lucy totally worn out from the happiness of playing with her new toys. She certainly had a good Christmas!

  11. All that nip can sure tucker a cat out.

  12. The snow is coming, the snow is coming, the snow is coming! Not sure how much NoVA will see. However, hubby went and cleared walkway to bare brick at 10 am. By noon, it was completely covered again…and by two, it was up to the level of the bottom step (approx. 6 inches). And we have at least 4 more hours…

  14. I just got Alice Starmore’s Aran Knitting for Christmas — I think I’m doomed to start an Aran project one of these days. Wish me luck.

  15. We had a dusting of snow last Saturday in Oregon, now it has turned very warm. Haven’t turned on my heat yet. Living on the 6th floor helps!

    Happy Holidays, Happy knitting!

  16. Some day I’m going to tackle an Aran-type pattern. I love the texture, but the different patterns all in one piece intimidate me …

LOVE the photo essay of Lucy’s Christmas! Jetsam had a good one too, though he was so worked up on Christmas Eve, I could swear he was a little kid and not a cat …

  17. We had a ton of snow up in New England. Many communities declared snow emergencies to encourage people to keep off the roads while everyone was plowing!

  18. Hope you finally got your snow. It was good to see Lucy enjoying her needle felted mouse. If it gets “to’ up” at some point, I will gladly make her a new one.

Happy New Year to you, Lucy, and the Lucy Daddy.

  19. Lucy is adorable!

  20. We got your snow as well as ours here in Va. Beach. Pretty, but don’t drive if you don’t have to. The roads are awful! Given the conditions the drivers aren’t doing too badly!

  21. The Aran cables are amazing~
Stay safe and warm, you guys~ ♥♥♥

  22. Oh how cute. Too bad my husband is allergic to cats (not that I don’t love my dogs to pieces).

  23. Glad you and Lucy had a warm and love-filled Christmas. Wish you both the best in 2011!

ps. we had snow flurries here in north Florida on Sunday morning. there’s a photo on my blog post linked here.
