My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

I am pleased to report that I completed my latest shawl on Friday.

Unblocked it measured about 48″ across the top and 22″ down the center back.

Blocked it grew to 60″ across the top and 30″ down the center back.

I used 2 skeins of Alchemy Juniper with very little left over:

This is 4 grams of yarn. Each 50 gram skein of Juniper has 232 yards, so this shawl took about 450 yards.

This is a very simple pattern — and I’m surprised how much I like it. Simplicity can be quite pleasing. I think I’ll call the pattern “Delightfully Simple Shawl.” As I mentioned, I plan to write it up in a lot of detail and include line by line written-out instructions as well as charts, so it will be a god choice for beginning lace knitters.

Future Stuff

I noticed on Friday that my upcoming book, Wendy Knits Lace, now has the cover photo displayed in its listing. I love the cover — hope you like it too. 🙂 It will be released on August 23 — seems like a long time to wait.

In other future news, I’ve signed up for the Woolen Rabbit Yarn Club. Kim has some lovely yarns featured on her site and I’m looking forward to getting some lovely surprises in the mail!

Back here at home, Lucy is exhausted from helping me block!

  1. Lovely shawl & lovely cover! I believe I must go pre-order now…

  2. Love this newest shawl – sometimes simple is fabulous!
Can’t wait for the new book . August does seem like a long way off, but it will be worth it! (I truy don’t know how you accomplish so much in a day – I’ve got to try harder!)

  3. wow love the shawl!

  4. looove the color (i think i have a green isssue), beautiful pattern as always

  5. That cover photo is gorgeous! It astounds me how quickly you knit up your “visions”.

  6. I’ve had your book on preorder for quite some time. Can’t wait for August!!

  7. Jo morgan says:

Wow! I love the book cover and would be pining for August except I don’t want to wish the summer away! I am so glad you are coming out with a book on lace and I know it will be terrific!

  8. Love your new book cover — and your new banner as well! You’ve color-coordinated with Lucy’s lovely fur — just like a good momma would!

  9. And with her lovely Siamese blue eyes, too, of course!

  10. Thanks for sharing the link – I’ve already preordered the book – and am really looking forward to it. You make lace seem easy! Special pets for Lucy for all of her blocking work!

  11. Lovely shawl and Lucy is always glorious. I used The Woollen Rabbit’s Mara for a shawl and it was *wonderful*. I’m on a yarn diet this year but am going to splurge for my birthday. Guess what I’m going to be buying? : – )

  12. Love the cover! New shawl looks beautiful!

  13. I’m much more of a hat and sock knitter. I’m not big into the shawl knitting thing, but I LOVE the latest ‘simple’ shawl. That is so pretty!! So funny how the simple things (I’m taking your word for it here…) can look so complicated. I think it’s my favorite of all of the shawls you have come up with in the last year or so. Almost makes me want to try my hand at it!

  14. Madeline says:

What a beautiful cover! I look forward to the book.

  15. Nancy Jo C says:

I love the green shawl. I think I’m going to have to try this one when you get the pattern completed.

  16. I’m always astounded at how quickly you knit up your projects!

I’m a lace novice, but I’m looking forward to your book in the hope that there will be some simple patterns. I’m doing some lace-y shawls right now, and I’m getting more confident.

You haven’t mentioned it, but I hope your hand is 100% healed now.

  17. Lovely green. Just the colour of the binding on my copy of Jane Austen’s Persuasian’ Perhaps you could name this one Anne Elliot. I already have Miss Wodehouse.

  18. Congrats on your lace book! I love the cover. It is beautiful.

I love your simple shawl too.

  19. Beautiful! Miss Lucy does a nice job of blocking xoxo

  20. Val Champ says:

Love the shawl Wendy…the very first lace I knit was your Simple Shawl…I used a long changing coloured yarn and it turned out really nice. I, like the others, have pre-ordered your book..August seems far away but gives me time to get caught up. It could happen. LOL

  21. Lovely use of a pattern — this would be perfect for a handpaint or a yarn with long color runs.
