My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Reticulated Shawl

I completed my latest shawl on Friday evening. Here it is pre-blocking:

Pre-blocking it measured approximately 46″ across the top and 20″ down the center back. After blocking:

It now measures 58″ across the top and 29″ down the center back.

This was knit from Dragonfly Fibers Squishy Lace in the “Villainess” colorway — about 600 yards — on a U.S. size 3 (3.25mm) needle. I’m calling the design “Reticulated Shawl” and the pattern will be available soon.

The winner of my giveaway of Knits that Fit, drawn at random from the comments, is Marushka. Marushka, I’ve emailed you. Thanks to everyone who entered the drawing.

What has captured Lucy’s attention?

She was watching a nature documentary that showed baby alligators being born. They were squeaking as they emerged from the eggs and Lucy was fascinated.

We had our Doctor Who themed dinner last night.

Fish custard rules!

  1. We have been having a Doctor Who Easter Marathon in Canada on the Space Channel. It started on Thursday night at 9 pm and is still going! No complaints here! Hope you are having a good Easter.

  2. W0ot! Congrats to Marushka!

  3. Thank you for giving both unblocked and blocked views and measurements for your shawls. It is very helpful.

  4. Gorgeous shawl , as for fish custard , i’ll have regular vegie custard please.

  5. OK I have to ask. Why did you have fish and custard on Friday? I am assuming something to do with Lent but this is new to me??

I love the shawl and like the idea of the stockette stitch in the body of the shawl. Happy Easter. And after eating you fish and custard I would imagine your soul has been clensed also.

  6. I really like that shawl. It has a very art deco appearance!

  7. Mmmmmm. Fish eyes! My favorite since childhood hundreds of years ago!

  8. Sharon Moon says:

Can 20 year old wool sweaters be re blocked to a larger size? Parts of my body have become fluffy and these gorgeous hand knit sweaters are too snug? Off now to find what fish and custard is.

  9. Marushka says:

I’m thrilled to win that book — thanks!

The new shawl is lovely. I think that “villainness” may be my new favorite colorway name.

  10. Stacy and the rugrats says:

Dorothy, fish fingers and custard is a Doctor Who thing. The Doctor can’t find something he likes to eat on the first episode of Season 5 until he eats fish fingers and custard. Odd combination that. I almost thought of making it for our watching of the new Doctor Who. But decided to make sugar cookies instead 😉

  11. The Emperor likes the Westminster Dog Show.

  12. I love the new shawl! And Harley is always fascinated by anything squeaky…..

  13. Every once in a while I am tempted to buy a nature video for our cat and dog to watch while we are at work. Something with birds and squirrels will make probably both of them a little hungry!

  14. Lovely shawl. I think lace to be worn actually shows a bit better when surrounded by larger areas of stockinet. When allover lace hangs loosely on a body a lot of detail is lost. Laid flat, of course, like a doily, all the details are there in high relief. As to Lucy, she’s reminding me of my dear departed doggy who only showed interest in TV when there were animals on.

  15. Oh, you’re so delightfully silly. Fish custard indeed! Did Lucy enjoy some too? I can imagine it would be most delightful to eat fish custard while watching baby crocodiles!

  16. did really have a theme for the whovian fest but did enjoy all the good repeats as well as the new episode. We are still not brave enough to try the custard and fish fingers. I am the only one in my house that actually likes custard. glad to hear you all had fun.

  17. I really like the color. It’s a beautiful green.

  18. Fish Custard! Hilarious. One of my favorite Who-isms: “Are you armed?” Dr “Yes” “With what?” Dr “Overconfidence, this (clutches briefcase), and a very small screwdriver.”

  19. Lovely shawl. Thanks for making my yarn so gorgeous!
