My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Insomnia: it’s not always a bad thing.

I’ve had a couple of sleepless nights this week, so my lace in progress is, well, progressing.

As I mentioned in my last blog post, this is another lace sweater, and it will be styled similarly to the last one I made. (I know I haven’t written up the pattern for it yet — too much going on for me to concentrate!)

This one differs from the last one in that I started by knitting a lace edging sideways, then turned and picked up stitches along the long edge and am knitting up from there. On my last lace sweater I simply knit up from the bottom.

I am planning on making this sweater rather long — I think I have 26 or 27″ so far on this piece (which will be the back) and I will likely knit to at least 32″, maybe more.

I’ll keep you posted. 🙂

The other day firefly contacted me to offer a fun giveaway for my readers. Remember the adorable knitters’ eye charts we gave away a while back? Those were a collaboration between firefly and her artist son. Her son has an etsy shop here where he sells his vintage-y handmade subway signs. Like these:

He also does custom work, if you are looking for a unique gift for someone — check out this lovely sign created as a wedding gift:

This giveaway is for a set of three 12″ x 18″ signs that the winner will be able to select from the Flying Junction Etsy shop. If you’d like to be entered in the drawing, please leave a comment to this post by noon EDT next Tuesday, August 23 — my publication day! 😀

By the way, firefly asked me to tell you that her son knows how to knit. 🙂 We gotta support our fellow knitters!

  1. Those signs are really cool! I would have loved one as a wedding present on my day.

  2. Miss Lucy looks so very comfterable there with the lace. I think I like the idea of a lace sweater, might have to think about knitting myself one. But first, I need to knit a Super Slouch to hide my metric crap tonne of hair. Knowing that Wendy can fit all of her hair under the hat gives me hope that it will work for mine as well.

  3. Very cool signs!

  4. I love vintage-y things and supporting Etsy artists! The signs giveaway is great! Thank you for offering it. FitzyFiberFancy on Twitter

  5. Wendy, that lace sweater is looking so beautiful and drapey! The way you staged your photo, it almost looks like an airy, luxury throw or something.

Sorry to hear you are having sleepless nights, but you do have some very exciting things going on, so it is understandable.

Thank you so much for hosting this giveaway of my son’s subway roll signs. I know he appreciates the shout out very much!

Warm wishes, and good luck to all!

  10. I respectfully disagree – insomnia sucks! I’m struggling to function today after not having slept all that well for the last few nights. I’ve thought about just getting up & doing something else, but then I know I’ll never get back to sleep.
