My current work in progress:

Sundew,by Martin Storey, knit from Rowan Softyak DK, using 3.25mm and 4mm needles.

Insomnia: it’s not always a bad thing.

I’ve had a couple of sleepless nights this week, so my lace in progress is, well, progressing.

As I mentioned in my last blog post, this is another lace sweater, and it will be styled similarly to the last one I made. (I know I haven’t written up the pattern for it yet — too much going on for me to concentrate!)

This one differs from the last one in that I started by knitting a lace edging sideways, then turned and picked up stitches along the long edge and am knitting up from there. On my last lace sweater I simply knit up from the bottom.

I am planning on making this sweater rather long — I think I have 26 or 27″ so far on this piece (which will be the back) and I will likely knit to at least 32″, maybe more.

I’ll keep you posted. 🙂

The other day firefly contacted me to offer a fun giveaway for my readers. Remember the adorable knitters’ eye charts we gave away a while back? Those were a collaboration between firefly and her artist son. Her son has an etsy shop here where he sells his vintage-y handmade subway signs. Like these:

He also does custom work, if you are looking for a unique gift for someone — check out this lovely sign created as a wedding gift:

This giveaway is for a set of three 12″ x 18″ signs that the winner will be able to select from the Flying Junction Etsy shop. If you’d like to be entered in the drawing, please leave a comment to this post by noon EDT next Tuesday, August 23 — my publication day! 😀

By the way, firefly asked me to tell you that her son knows how to knit. 🙂 We gotta support our fellow knitters!

  1. howdy – just wanted to mention that Lucy, being a proper and — fuzzy rats aside — non-materialistic girl, doesn’t know this but: A lot of big name clothing ads show the models recumbent and suggestive of sleep, like the ones David Beckham was in last year. Also, I’ve seen this in Vogue Knitting several times. So, Miss Lucy is actually au courant in her modelling approach.
    Work it, girl…

  2. Totally cool signs! I would absolutely love one! Wendy, you do an amazing job of supporting other artists…and one very wonderful cat! She gets to rest on such lovely, lovely knitting and yarns.
