My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

It’s been a cool rainy day here — seems almost Autumnal!

Yesterday I celebrated Labor Day by . . . laboring. Doing things that needed to be done around the house. But I did find time to work on my current lace sweater:

I am doing a simple 4-row all-over lace pattern. I do like the results in this yarn, very much. It is, however, somewhat boring to knit.

A big thank you to aliceq who in the comments recommended Intaglio as an easy graphics program for creating pattern schematics. Five minutes after downloading the demo version I created a decent-looking schematic, so I am happy.

I will have the patterns for my last two lace sweaters finalized soon.

The winner of a signed copy of Rachael Herron’s new book A Life in Stitches, drawn at random from the comments, is Hester from Atlanta, who has been notified. Thanks to everyone who left a comment!

Lucy sez:

“I don’t like it when she does this.”

  2. Cool that Intaglio works well for you. If I ever have a schematic or something similar to make, I will check it out (provided my current software doesn’t cut it).

  3. I love the colors! Lucy looks snazzy in them, too!

I got your “wendy knits lace” book as a birthday gift today! YAYZ! can’t wait to read it/investigate the patterns!

  6. Beautiful! I love the colorway!

  7. Hi, Wendy,
You certainly don’t need my kudos on your “Wendy Knits Lace” book, but I’m leaving them anyway. I’ve actually become very picky about purchasing books–I’ve been knitting a LONG time and have accumulated an embarrassingly large library of knitting books (former librarian AND knit shop owner!!!), so to add one (with the availability of all those patterns on Ravelry, too!!!) it has to be very special to me. I totally gobbled up your book–there isn’t a design in it that I’m not thrilled with (and that, too–NEVER happens.) There are definitely a few that I wouldn’t knit for myself!!! but still look like fun knits.
Thank you. I know there was a huge amount of work that went in to its production; you did a wonderful job.

  8. I really don’t know how you knit SO QUICKLY! Im pretty fast but my stuff certainly doesnt grow as well as yours does!
Im enjoying your colourways. My stash veers towards the blue/ green aqua tones – and then it stays there as I dont really wear those colours that much. I reality Im a practical black and white girl.
I will make more of an effort to go for some tawny shades as your things look so good!

My cats Cabbage and Archibald send love to Lucy. x x

  10. It is really cool .Cool that Intaglio works well for you. I am also happy that you are writing up the patterns for the lace sweaters. That’s so gorgeous and beautiful.I can’t wait also to knit one or both:)

  11. I want to know what you feed to Lucy so she tolerates this kind of treatment…

  12. Oh, Lucy, what you must put up with!

  13. What is it about cats! When Hula or Boogie or Nico look hunched up and cold looking and I dare to drape their afghan or fleecy blanket over their haunches or just snuggled around them, they give me this look, “Why did you do that, I’m not really cold, I just look like I’m shivering!”
I agree with the rest of the comments, LOVE the color of your sweater…wish I had one now, it’s soooo chilly here in N. Alabama, only 59° yesterday!
Winter is coming really soon I think.

  14. Oh I received my hard copy of your new book and just love. Thank you so much for signing it for even though I could not make it to your book signing. Lucy, you’re a cuty as usual!!

  15. Interesting. After what seemed like an unending string of 90 plus days here in Colorado, we had a high of 60 degrees today. Relief, but a bit extreme! Jo
