Giant Socks and Other Things

Here are the giant socks I finished a couple of days ago.

These are knit from Trekking 6-ply in color # 1806, on U.S. size 2 (2.75mm) needles. They were made for size 14 wide male feet and used up almost every bit of the yarn.

I started another, not-quite-so-giant sock:

Funky stripes, eh? The yarn is Online Supersocke 6-Ply Winter Color and is old — it’s been in my stash for a number of years, and I think a yarn distributor gave it to me. This is colorway #888. It’s another sport/dk weight sock yarn and I’m using my 2.75mm needles on it as well.

I am knitting along on Filey — see?

I’ve not knit on Trillian since last weekend, but I plan to take it with me this weekend on our knitting retreat so it will likely get some love then.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get ready to go pick up the Knitgirllls at the airport. Later, from 4 – 7 pm-ish, we’ll all be at fibre space in Alexandria, VA. Hope to see some of you there!

There will likely be no blog post on Sunday since I’ll get home late-ish. But I’ll be back next Tuesday.

  1. It sounds like you are doing well with your shift to multiple projects. Hopefully it won’t drive you batty!

  2. My son has rather large feet as well. I’m thinking that I might do his socks on the csm.

  4. Very nice! Those are big feet! I like the new (old) yarn you are using it’s very unusual. Have a great time!!! If I were closer, I’d come visit!

Um. Do you have a pattern you followed to make size 14 wide socks? I have been looking forever to find such pattern to make sock for my hubby. I am not to the point in my knitting skills where I can really adapt a pattern for giant feet but I can knit for regular feet when I follow a pattern.

  6. Cool! I’m currently knitting with stashed Online Supersocke in the same colorway. Although I’m not currently making socks, I love my socks made from it. They knit quickly and wear extremely well.

  7. I so love the supersocke colorway #888, luscious color and cool stipes/pattern that comes from it. Ta! Have fun with the girls and in fiber world.

I am a big fan of Vogue Knits and adore vintage patterns. I am fortunate to have inherited some older issues of Vogue Knits from my mother-in-law. I would love to be able to add this book to my library.

  9. Love the Filey sweater, and just want to brag that tomorrow we shall be in Filey, passing through to somewhere or another. Today saw some Filey ganseys done in the rowan denim and they look so good, might have to do another one for myself. Excess baggage or not, I am going home to Australia with some yarn to do a gansey.

I am in awe of the giant socks…and I thought my men folk had big feet. I have knit several pairs but I find It very discouraging to lose a handknit sock somewhere in the laundry circuit. It is fun to shop in one’s stash, and I tend to buy yarn when traveling as a souvenir (plus it is great to meet other knitters that way), so the yarn is usually brings up a pleasant memory.

  11. I love the big socks. I did a pair a few months back almost that big. I worried right up to the end that they would not fit. I love the ONLine colorway as well!

  12. LOVE the socks! Thanks for sharing!
