My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Here is the state of my Wingspan Scarf as of this morning, spread out as much as possible on my desk at work:

I am on the 16th triangle and am thinking about how many more triangles I can make. I have this much of the skein left:

Before I started the 16th triangle, I weighed the skein. It weighs 29 grams. This yarn comes in a 150-gram skein, so the first 15 triangles took 121 grams of yarn, or just over 8 grams each.

After completing the triangles, I need to work 4 rows along the long edge and then bind off. That long edge will be over 200 stitches, because each triangle contributes 13 stitches to the edge.

A variable — I did not weigh my skein before I started knitting. It may have weighed slightly more or less than 150 grams.

So what I think I will do is work a total of 17 triangles then work the long edge.

I did purchase a second skein of Zauberball Starke 6 in this colorway, but I think I’ll be very happy with the length of the scarf worked with one skein.

Would anyone like my second skein to knit their own Wingspan? 🙂

To be entered in a random drawing to win one skein of Zauberball Starke 6 in colorway #2081 (a lovely mix of olive green and black), leave a comment on this blog post by Tuesday February 28, 2012, noon Eastern time.  I’ll choose a recipient at random from the comments left (you must leave a comment on this post to be eligible to win).

  49. This scarf is very cool and whimsical like me! Wink! Greens are my favorite color and i am drawn to them in almost all of my projects. Just love it and would love to be a “contestant” in the running for the extra ball. I’m loading up on projects because I’m having my right knee replaced on April 11 and need lots of projects.

  50. Katie Lynn says:

I’ve never used zauerball. I have just recently seen it in my lys, but haven’t had the perfect project to buy it for. They have mostly reds, which I think is the problem! That green is lovely!

  51. Sharen Warren says:

Ahh there I was clicking along on my Cotton-Ease Fisherman Sweater when the Wingspan bug bit,. Fortunately I only recently puruchased a ball of M&K Fame Trend, a Kauni type yarn in colors of rose, dusty peach, brown, and plum…and a much softer hand than Kauni. I just have to start that scarf. I love the Zig-Zag Gansey too, it is beautiful. I’m so glad you like Cotton-Ease.

  52. I’ve never used zauberball yarn before I hope I win. That would be so great.

  53. Yes, yes, yes…I’ve sworn off buying any yarn during Lent…but that shouldn’t apply to winning some! LOL

My Wingspan done in Liberty Wool is now 9 triangles long. It’s pretty enough, but doesn’t have nearly the pazaaz that yours does.

  54. I love your Wingspan! I’m working on one as well, out of handspun, but I’m only just starting the second triangle.
