My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

I am now a bit more than half done with Zuni.

I did a couple of extra repeats before starting the center section (weighing my skein of yarn as I went along). It’s easy to add repeats because the pattern is geometric and easy to follow. Here’s a close-up of the edge on the right side:

And the edge from the wrong side:

I think it looks nice from the wrong side as well as the right side — slightly more subtle.

I have hopes of completing this over the weekend. It is a very fun knit!

I will then start a two-color project using a Kauni solid and a Kauni variegated.

eBook Giveaway

Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway for the fabulous Fleegle Spins Supported. The winner has been chosen at random and it is Lynn Z. Lynn has been emailed. 🙂

Lucy the Mountain Climber

Several of you wondered how Lucy was able to climb so high (see photo in my last blog entry). This is how she gets up there:

It is still a fair leap from the back of the chair to the top of the bookcase.

How does she get down? I pull out a step stool and climb up to retrieve her when she starts looking like she is going to jump from the top of the bookcase down to the floor. It doesn’t seem to occur to her to come down the way she got up.

“I just like to let Momma feel useful.”

  1. I really like the edge on this one it’s very pretty! My Samson jumps to the counter, to the top of the fridge and then to the top of the cabinets. I’ll have to get a pic of him to post, it’s funny to see him up there. He does get down the same way he gets up there. Lucy is a beautiful kitty!

  2. Kathleen K says:

Love the way the colors are turning out on Zuni! Lucy is just to to cute. I loved the stash of yarn on the book shelf also 🙂

  3. My, oh, my, Lucy, you are so considerate.

damn! what a little jumper lucy is (for a senior kitty)! 🙂

  5. My Kitty Jazz climbs on top of the fridge. Its nice and warm up there, she comes down on her own, that is when she is good and ready

  6. I’m so not a pink person, but I am loving your Zuni shawl!

And Lucy isn’t the only one who can’t find her way out of difficult areas. My cat has required rescue from being squished between the back of the couch and the window, where she planted herself…

  7. How much you want to bet that she gets up and down easily during the day? ” But it’s so much fun to make Momma come up for me!”

I’m on a garter stitch kick lately — Zuni is going to go in my queue. Thanks for the close up.

  8. LOL! Oh, Lucy!

  9. Oh Lucy, you are really smart. Our Marshall has to be rescued from the area between the washing machine and the wall if Momma forgets to close the door to the laundry.

  10. Shawl is beautiful of course but I just wanna rub that sweet lil kitty forehead!

  11. Congratulations, Lynn Z, on your win!

Wendy, you once said that you didn’t think you were a particularly fast knitter. Well, compared to me, you knit with the speed of lightening! Do you use English, Continental, or some other knitting method? Can hardly believe that you are over half way finished with Zuni. Thanks for the close-up of the edge detail; it’s very nice. Enjoy knitting the rest of the shawl.

    Loving your Zuni…

  16. My cat Ginger has the opposite problem with the refrigerator – she can get down, but she can’t get up there so I need to pick her up and put her on the fridge. I know when she wants to get on the fridge by the way she runs around the house. I put her on the fridge, and she immediately bends down and head-butts me to say thank you. So cute. Then she has a nice nap up there until she’s ready to jump down.

  17. Now Lucy, don’t be trying that when Momma is off at work!

  19. Like many people above I love the Zuni, but really wanted to say how much I adore the photo of Lucy!! I want to kiss her pretty face.
