My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

I’ve not yet blocked my shawl. Rather, I have been thinking of excuses for not doing so.

It’s been one of those weeks — too many non-knitting-related things to deal with when I get home from work in the afternoon, so no time for blocking. so I think the blocking will have to wait until the weekend.

So meanwhile, I have started something new.

I am using “Traveller,” a yarn from Cephalopod Yarns. Cephalopod Yarns began as part of The Sanguine Gryphon. When The Sanguine Gryphon closed its doors last year, Cephalopod Yarns came into being.

I’m using the “House of Strangers” colorway.

Traveller is a DK-weight superwash merino wool, with 280 yards per 4-ounce skein.

I’m knitting this:

Yes, it is yet another sideways thing. 🙂

Oh, I just thought of another good excuse why I can’t block my shawl. Lucy is in my lap.

Must not disturb the Little Princess!

  1. Ooh, can’t wait to see it. Looks very pretty. I agree, don’t wake the princess. She wouldn’t like that.

  2. I really like the yarn color choice! Very nice. I too look forward to seeing the grand finale 🙂

  3. Cool new shawl…can’t disturb the princess.

  4. Can’t wait to see this one! I really like the colorway! I am surprised that you are using a DK weight though. I would thank that would just be a tad heavy but I guess when you need a really warm shawl this will definitely be a go-to one to wear!! Of course Lucy is Miss Princess!! 🙂

Love how the colors meld together in the shawl. Now, how do you do computer work with Lucy on your lap? I’m constantly touching Sparky’s ear tips, which she hates and then leaves my lap in a huff. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. M

The Verdant Gryphon also has Traveller yarn.

  8. Ok – question time! When Tux is sprawled over my lap there’s absolutely no room for the laptop. Forget it when sitting on the chair and if I’m reclined, my laptop would be down around my knees. The best I can manage when I’m being a cat seat is to browse with the laptop over on one side. Kats – I mean kids!!

Love the color of that yarn. I’m on a knit stitch kick myself — it’s so cushion-y and comforting.

  9. Why do you need an excuse?

You always do what you want when it comes to knitting.

  10. That is a very good reason for not blocking your shawl. 😉

Wow, I had not realized Sanguine Gryphon had shut down shop. I just dug out one of thier yarns from stash and was deciding what to do with it…may be a collector’s item now….but also, look, a new local source (you and I do not live very far apart, but Baltimore is WAY more local to me than to you, I am just off the BW Parkway and very near where 495/95 split for points north) Happy happy.

  12. LOL! You have a blocking block!

  13. Thanks for the info
