My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Second Sideways

I finished my second sideways shawlette knit from Tempted Yarns Luxe Grrl Friday night:

Like the red one, this took two skeins of Luxe Grrl: 500 yards of sportweight yarn. I knit with a U.S. size 5 needle. It measures 60″ along the top edge and 16″ down the center back.

I will offer this and the red shawlette together in one pattern. They are very similar, but the red one has a lace band on the bottom edge above the ruffle while the caramel one just has a simple line of fagoting. They each have a different rate of increase/decrease so the shape is slightly different.

On Saturday I cast on again for my Summer Mystery KAL shawl. I of course have already knit the shawl, while I was designing it. And my tech editor has knit it as well. The KAL starts on June 20 — this Wednesday! At this moment 1,955 people have bought the pattern! I wonder if we’ll reach 2,000 before Wednesday?

If you don’t already have the pattern, there’s still plenty of time to buy it — and of course you can purchase it after the 20th as well. It’s $2.00 while the KAL is going on, and will be $5.00 after the KAL ends later in July.

If you purchase before June 20 (through my Ravelry store) you will get all the preliminary information, including yarn and needle requirements, swatching instructions — it’s all described on the pattern page. On June 20, I will update the pattern to include the first clue, and everyone who has purchased the pattern will be notified to download the update.

There are several threads for the KAL in my Ravelry group and we are having lots of fun sharing photos of yarn and swatches and asking and answering questions.

Anyway, I cast on for the project again — just wanted to knit through it again a bit ahead of the group so I could make any last minute adjustments to the pattern to make it as good as it can be.

Lucy & Wendy

Lucy sez:

“Why is that funny? boxes are awesome!”

  1. Just ordered the pattern…hoping to help you get to 2,000!

  2. Very nice! I need to make me one.

  3. I’m scared to say, I am one that ordered the pattern. Thanks for the challenge and hope I can succeed.

Aren’t kitties like kids? Always the box and never the toy!

  4. Hi Wendy, Did I miss it … but could you indicate the level of a knitter one needs to be to knit this gorgeous shawlette? Can you say what one needs to know how to do to successfully to complete this? The edging is so-o-o lovely, but kinda scary to think of doing! I would be so grateful for this information! Sincerely, Gloria … your fan! :O)

  5. I love the ruffle on this shawlette!

  6. Robin F. says:

My kitties are the same way with boxes. Capo tried to get into one that was 1/2 his size the other day and got his head stuck. Silly kitty. KAL is swatched, beads are in the house. Ready for first clue!

  7. Oh Lucy! I just want to give you a big hug!

  8. The ruffle makes one look twice!

  9. Wow, I like your second sideways shawlette knit. It is really nice.

  10. Lestersmama says:

All boxes in this house are the property of Lester. His new favourite toy is the LL Bean paper shopping bag that brought my new shoes and shorts home.

  11. Bean meaning to order it since you announced – just did now! Now I’ll have to get the swatch done today!!! Looking forward to it – even though I’ll be on vacation with no internet for a big chunk of it and will be very behind when I get back. My first (and only) shawl was last year’s KAL so I am eager to try another one. Last year’s was dark green, so this year’s will have to be light green (trying to branch out a bit!!!) Thanks for doing this – shawls intimidate me so to have some support while going along is really great for me.
