My current work in progress:

Stornoway, designed by Alice Starmore from her book Fishermen’s Sweaters, knit in Frangipani 5-ply guernsey wool in the Aran colorway, on a 3.0mm needle.

I recently got on the review list for books and booklets from Annie’s (formerly Annie’s Attic) and received a booklet this week.

This is More Than a Dozen Hats & Beanies by Carri Hammett, a 48-page booklet with patterns for 15 hats. There are hats for men, women, and children. Here’s the thumbnail index:

The hats are all knit from either DK, worsted, or bulky weight yarn, and the models are all knit with popular, readily available yarns. The designs are cute, and the patterns seem clear and easy to follow.

There is a section in the front with basic techniques for knitting hats, and in the back, more basic knitting information:

Do you have hat knitting on your agenda for this autumn/winter? This booklet has patterns that will cover a lot of heads.

Who’d like my review copy?

To be entered in the drawing to receive this booklet, please leave a comment on this post by Sunday, September 2, 2012, at 11:00am Eastern Time. I’ll draw a name at random from the comments left.

Meanwhile, I am working on the left side front of my denim jacket.

Have you noticed a trend? Poncho, Felted Coat, Denim Jacket. I am knitting all outerwear items.

Since I haven’t worn a sweater indoors in years, I figured I’d start knitting things I might actually have a chance of wearing: jackets and coats for autumn and winter.

I’m in the planning stage for my project for after I finish the denim jacket. More outerwear!

Here’s my little princess, contemplating the need for outerwear.

  1. Jenny Craddock says:

Hats are great quick projects. Would love the booklet. Thanks.

  2. I would like to be lucky this time and win the booklet. Nice hats.

  3. Lestersmama says:

I knit my brother-in-law a new hat each autumn. He manages to lose it by springtime. I’m not sure if he’s careless or just likes getting a new hat each year. My sister thinks he just hates doing laundry…..hat is dirty?……lose it……wear replacement.

  4. I would knit a coat if I could knit as fast as you do, but I better stick to smaller things.

  5. I really appreciate your product/book reviews- so helpful to know what’s out there Thanks.

  6. A custom hat is a very personal object, and reflects the identities and tastes of the wearer.

  11. Gosh, I just love knitting hats!! So many patterns, so little time….
I like to knit hats for sailors, and every hat I knit I like to use a different pattern so they are all unique! There is no such thing as too many hat patterns!

  12. Wow lots of people are making hats. I’d love the book.

  13. Hi, I’s love a copy of the hats book!

  14. Hats sound like fun. thanks for the give away.

  15. I would love to win a hat book! Can’t wait to see your jacket completed – your knitting amazes me!

  16. I knit 30+ hats this summer to be given out to the students at an outdoor ed school in our district so I usually have one on the needles (they’re my “palate cleanser” between other knits). I’d love to win a book of hat patterns.

  17. Hats are the new socks. I am tired of knitting socks and seem to be on a hat craze. I would so love to have this book. However, my budget seems rather limited due my excessive sock yarn purchases over the past few years. I think my husband is very right in declaring an absolute moratorium on yarn until I manage to get my stash down, so I am definitely looking for ways to use up sock yarn (doubled or tripled) to make hats. Thanks again for your generosity in donating the book for a draw.
