Sheepy Goodness

I’m still working along on the Denim Jacket.

That’s the left side front, almost completed. I have yet to make the right side front and the sleeve, so there is still a lot of knitting to be done on this.

Thanks to all of you who left a comment on my last post to be entered in the drawing to win my review copy of  More Than a Dozen Hats & Beanies by Carri Hammett. The winner is Melanie J., who has been emailed.

I was talking this week with a friend (hi Sharon!) about Black Welsh Mountain sheep yarn. Back in the mid 90s I came across a small wool shop in Padstow, Cornwall and bought a quantity of Black Welsh Mountain yarn there. I still have some of it and it is even still in the bag from the yarn shop:

It’s aran weight and I have 587 grams of it:

And Lucy says it still smells pretty sheepy!

  1. I think I hear a shawl coming on! Baaaaaaaa.

  2. I love saving the bags from various yarn stores. I just have to figure out what to do with them.

  4. Congrats Melanie!! The cobalt blue coat is just stunning!! I could not imagine making a coat but maybe someday. You are an inspiration for me!

  5. So what will your 587 grams become? It looks worsted weight, is it? I love fresh sheep wool, it feels so good.

  10. Dorothy in Kentucky says:

Love the colour. I think a matching set of cowl, mits and hat for when it gets really chilly this Winter. I bet those coats weigh ton as they come close to finishing. Ah Lucy, thinking about barn life with sheep? But me thinks you are to much a city girl. ;0)

  11. Someday I’ll learn to give a rip about knitting jackets. I’ll look forward to seeing what you come out with. Looking forward in showing us more of your masterpiece.
