My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

It’s a Wrap

It’s done!

Since my last blog post, I picked up stitches around the edge (almost 1300 of them), and knit an edging. I increased stitches at each corner to make mitered corners.

I did a purl round to make a nice edge for turning, and knit a facing. I decreased stitches at each corner so that the facing would lie flat.

I ran out of black part-way through the facing and rather than break into a new skein, I continued with some leftover rainbow yarn. I think it looks kind of nice.

The wrap is a nice size to wear — here it is on Gwendolyn.

I finished just in time for warm weather. čśë

New Book!

I have received a review copy of another of the “60 Quick Knits” books, this one is 60 Quick Baby Blankets: Cute & Cuddly Knits in 220 Superwash┬« and 128 Superwash┬« from Cascade Yarns.

Published by Sixth & Spring Books, it was released last week.

As the title suggests, it contains patterns for 60 quick baby blankets, all knit form Cascade 220 Superwash and Cascade 128 Superwash. 220 is a basic worsted weight wool yarn, and 128 is a bulky weight merino.

The blankets are all just too cute. Many of them are colorwork. Some really easy:

Some harder:

And some rather challenging:

There are also some solid color texture and lace blankets, but there are more multicolored than monochrome.

I love that they included the pattern for the wee lamb that is pictured on the cover:

Everything in the book is just so darn cute. If you have even one or two blankets to make, this is a great value: 60 patterns in the book. Well, 61, if you include the little lamb pattern. They are clearly written and are at varying levels of difficulty so there is very much something for everyone. Many of these blankets could be resized ┬á— they could be made into full-sized afghans.

Who would like my review copy?

To be entered in a drawing to receive my review copy of ┬á60 Quick Baby Blankets: Cute & Cuddly Knits in 220 Superwash┬« and 128 Superwash┬« from Cascade Yarns, leave a comment on this blog post by 11:00am Eastern time on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. IÔÇÖll choose a comment at random and sent my copy to the commenter.

Is that rainbow blanket for me?

  1. There’s a new baby on her way in my family and I just decided on using Cascade Superwash for a blanket but haven’t chosen a pattern yet. It would be wonderful to win this book. Thanks for thinking of us.

  2. I’ve got a new baby in the family. She could use some new blankies….

  3. I love your wrap, so colourful! I was looking at that book in the store just ast night & came close to buying it but my budget said no. Maybe I’ll get lucky and win your copy? Thank for your generosity in sharing with us!

  4. I love the 60 knits books and have been looking forward to this new addition since I heard it was coming!

  5. That’s a very beautiful and eye catching wrap! I love the color(s)! Recently I was knitting a pair of “Ugly Duckling Socks” using black and a very colorful rainbow-type yarn, and one of my cats (Autumn) was so fascinated by my yarn! Every time I’d pick them up to work on them she’d rush over and supervise. I ended up buying her several pairs of neon colored shoestrings, which she now drags around all over my house. LOL!

  6. I love the wrap. Great combination. Book looks neat too!!

  7. I am amazed by the speed at which you knit! I’d love to increase my speed while working on some of these baby blankets.

  8. Gosh, you’re patient! I don’t know that I’d make such a large garment on 3.25 mm needles and be cheerful about it. čśë lol It looks lovely though.
