Negative Progress

Tomorrow I am heading to Colorado to teach at The Loopy Ewe Spring Fling. I wanted a nice mindless project to work on while socializing, soearlier this week I decided to cast on Viajante.

The pattern calls for 1 skein of Wollmeise Lacegarn and I happen to have a fair amount of that in my stash, so I selected a skein and got knitting.

That’s Wollmeise Lacegarn in the “Spice Market” colorway. That photo shows my progress as of yesterday morning.

Here it is as of this morning.

Notice anything different? čÖé

For whatever reason, I was just not feeling the love with the Wollmeise yarn. Odd, since the original was knit with that. So I ripped it out last night and restarted it using Kauni Effektgarn 8/2 in the Rainbow colorway. Yes, I am knitting with rainbow yarn . . . again. I am more than a little obsessed with this yarn.

I wound up a skein that weighed 238 grams, which by my reckoning is around 1050 yards. I have plenty more rainbow yarn in stash, so if I reach the end of this skein and don’t feel as though my Viajante is long enough, I can keep on knitting.

Viajante is a pattern that is very easy to adjust. I went up a couple of needle sizes for the re-knit because the Kauni yarn is heavier than the Wollmeise Lacegarn. So instead of using U.S. size 3 and 4, I am using size 5 and 6.

So that will be my weekend knitting.

If I stay in Momma’s lap she can’t get up and go away this weekend!

  1. It’s snowing like crazy here, I hope you don’t have any annoying delays!

  2. So *you* are the one with all the pretty Lacegarn! I’ve been on the hunt for the “Feldmaus” colorway for the Viajante. I have a feeling they don’t make it anymore. I thought it would be a good cruise project, but it looks like I’ll have to find something else.

    Le sigh

Poor Lucy. How do they know when we’re going somewhere before we even start packing?

  3. I’m packing now for Spring Fling and can’t wait to get there and see this in person!

  4. Viajanta is on my wish list. Thanks for knitting it.It’s a real interesting knit, so am looking forward to “looking over your shoulder” while you knit it.

  5. I like the yarn change….I always go with what feels good to knit with!!!

  6. The Lacegarn looks great in the new colors; will look forward to seeingit finished.

Stay warm and dry in Colorado!

Am busy knitting great-granddaughter Jenna a pullover sweater with the zipper up the back. . . .

  7. The new colors are so spring-ish. They’ll combat any yucky weather (and/or delays) nicely. Although I’m keeping m fingers crossed that you don’t have either.

  8. Ah, Lucy, you poor dear, don’t worry, mama will be home before you know it. Safe Travels Wendy!

  9. Oh yes, the kitties knew when I was getting ready to go — I could tell by their mutual insistance upon inspecting my luggage. So, I spent a week away from them in spite of their anxious scampering, and when I got home? Hardly a peep from either; Miss Hinky wouldn’t even stop grooming long enough to purr at me. I guess she was just satified that “her” staff had returned… Ooo, not shiny but very “rainbowy” & very tempting!

  10. I’d like your opinion who you think has the best selection and price of the Kauni yarn. Also is rainbow the colorway, I yarns I find are with a letter and a number.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Both yarns look very lovely. I’ll have to check out the patten. I do like to have an easy project on hand when I’m not in the mood to follow a pattern.

Did I see that correctly? – Is the computer mouse on the left? Would I be right to assure you’re a lefty? I am but I also use my right hand for certain tasks.

Good luck, have fun & safe travels čÖé

Oh boy, I started Viajante over the weekend. Crazy me, I had to cast on Right Now, and what I could find locally in sufficient quantity was Cascade Alpaca Lace. It’s a bit finer than the Wollmeise Lacegarn, so I may be knitting this for the rest of my life! But I love the concept and the pattern, and I love knitting around and around…
