My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

A Winner, a Cowl, and a New Book

First, the winner. Judy (who has been emailed) has won my review copy of Refined Knits: Sophisticated Lace, Cable, and Aran Lace Knitwear by Jennifer Wood. Thanks to all who entered the giveaway!

Next, the cowl. My Bohus Cowl is complete and the pattern is now available on Ravelry!

Thank you once more to my long-suffering colleague Lemiel for modeling the cowl.

2016-03-04 16.10.12

All of the details of the cowl are on its Ravelry page.

The outside is my interpretation of a Bohus design

2016-03-04 16.08.29

The lining is a simple wave design.

2016-03-04 16.08.55

It’s big enough to wrap around your neck twice but you could easily make one half the diameter.

2016-03-04 16.08.08

The pattern price is $5.00 but this is included in my Half-Off Leap Year sale (going on through March 13), so once you put the pattern in your cart, the discount is automatically taken and your cost is $2.50. Such a deal!

Finally, a new book.

This is Ami Ami Kittens: Seriously Cute Crochet! by Mitsuki Hoshi and let me tell you — they are not exaggerating with the subtitle “Seriously cute!” I cannot begin to describe how cute it is.

The book has patterns for 12 different cat breeds/colorways: Calico, Scottish Fold, Solid white, Ragdoll, Munchkin, Bicolors, British Shorthair, Russian Blue, American Shorthair, Siamese, Tabby, and Tuxedo.

Here is the Table of Contents

One of the things that makes this book so squee-worthy (that is so a word!) is the photography. Each cat breed has a two-page photo spread.

Here is the “Solid White” kitty photo spread.

And the Scottish Fold:

And the Munchkin — look at the short little legs!

And of course, the Ragdoll. One of the Ragdolls is on his back, demonstrating the “Ragdoll flop.”

I don’t crochet well — I can do a chain and a passable single crochet, but that’s about it. So I asked a colleague who does crochet to take a look at the book and she says the patterns are very well-written and thorough.

Since I don’t crochet, I’ll pass along my review copy (albeit reluctantly) to one of you. Who’d like it?

To be entered in a drawing to receive my review copy, leave a comment on this blog post by noon Eastern Time next Wednesday, March 16, and I’ll select a winner at random from the comments posted.

Loki sez:

Call that a Ragdoll flop? This is a Ragdoll flop!

I have two daughters who would love this book! Totally squee-worthy!! I hope that I win!

  2. I typically only make amigurumi when someone I know (and like) requests one, but I think I’d be making these kitties for fun. And I’d probably keep most of them for myself. 😉

  3. Celeste says:

They really are seriously cute. My kids would be squealing if I showed them these kitties. And I don’t think they’d put them down for weeks if I made them!

  4. Carolynn says:

The Ami Ami Kittens are totally squee-worthy! Although Loki is too, especially in his Ragdoll Flop position.

  5. I love cats and crochet!

  6. These are so very cute! I’d love to make a family of cats. Thanks!

Always appreciate Lemiel agreeing to model for you, he does a great job!

Absolutely love the adorable book. I can’t think of anything better to crochet then seriously cute kittens! Brilliant give-away Wendy, thank you 🙂

  9. They are adorable and I love to crochet. I’ll have to buy this book if my number isn’t chosen.

  10. Ok — I crochet, but not a lot, but I have a friend who is a master crocheter, lover of all things amigurumi (she’s working on Star War figures now), and loves, loves, loves cats.

I’d love to win it for her (and hopefully she’d make me a couple!) In fact, I’m putting it on a wish list so I don’t lose track of it.

  11. Congratulations to Judy on her win. Your cowl is fabulous! Love the pattern and the colors. Lemiel is a great model. All the kitties are stinking cute, but I particularly like the tuxedo. Lestat was a tuxedo and he was my constant companion for fourteen years. Loki flops perfectly! I love all the pics you post of him…..such a cutie!

  12. I am so sure that my daughter would just love me to make these kitties for her!

  13. I have 3 cats, so I really love cats and would love this book! Thanks!

  17. Oh yes kittens!!!! Still not as cute as Loki though.

  19. I’d love to give some of these patterns a try!

  20. alicia grayson says:

Love your cowl! As I have 2 kitties now, I think a crochet cat would fit right in! Give Loki a hug from me.

  21. Having four cats of my own…I totally need this book! So adorable!
Dizzy´s last blog post ..Use the Force!

  22. Since my son-in-law is allergic to cats (and I love them) hand crocheted cats would be the next best thing! I’don’t love to win this book.

  23. Squee! Those are wonderful! I adore amigurumi and I know several people who would love to receive one from me.

  24. Charlotte N says:

The tiny crocheted cats are adorable, so is Loki!!

  28. Hi Wendy — Your cowl is amazing! And tell Loki that he is waaaaay cuter than those “Ami Ami Kittens”!!!! Tho they ARE pretty cute and I would love to have a chance to win the book! I am in awe of how many knitting projects you complete, and how beautiful they all are. Look forward to the day when I’m such a productive knitter!
    Cheers! Monica (row-by-row on Ravelry)

  29. Awesome flop Loki!
I would so love to win this book, they are too cute!

  30. SQUEEEEEE!!!

Ahem, ah, well, er…..Yes! yes! What an awesome pattern book. The pictures would mean that I would have to ‘read’ it to my 2 year old grandson who lives for kittens… and trains.

  31. Squee worthy for sure. Love the kitties, so cute. Thank you for the chance to own this lovely book. Worth learning to crochet for sure.

  32. Totally Squee worthy. Ami Ami Kittens are super cute. As a cat lover I would be willing to work on my crochet skills to master the little buggers. 🙂

    Loki is just adorable.

  33. Not a crocheter…but I know someone who is!!
Cindy in Happy Valley´s last blog post ..Time to catch up.

  34. Kristine M. says:

Those are some of the cutest kittens I’ve ever seen! I would learn crochet just to make them!

  35. The cowl is GORGEOUS and I need this book because I am only permitted two (live) cats and everyone knows I NEED a family of cats. So I have to win this book, or buy it, so I can make myself a sensible number of cats!! 😉

Thanks for the chance to win!

  36. These kittens are so cute! My first granddaughter is due this summer and I’d love to make these for her someday!

  37. I don’t need to be in the drawing for the book as I don’t crochet, but I just wanted to say that your interpretation of a bohus design is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love it – unfortunately, I get too hot to wear anything around my neck – otherwise, I would make one for me.

  38. I have three ragdoll cats. This looks like a great book.

  39. Deena Crossett says:

I’ve been a crazy cat woman since I was 2 years old.

  40. yarnmule says:

Oh my gosh that book. How fun to make toys that match my cats!

  41. Squee indeed! So cute! I can crochet if I have to, and it might be worth it to make one of these.

I am not a crazy cat woman. I know because I took a test once to see if I was a crazy cat woman. It said I wasn’t – but I was just one point away.

  42. I would love to make these! All my cat lover friends would be getting little versions of their cats!

  43. Oh my. The Ami Ami Kittens book is sooooo cute. I am a crazy cat lady and would have to crochet every one of them. BTW, Loki has the ragdoll flop perfected.

  44. Oh my goodness, these little kitties are seriously cute!! I don’t crochet very well, but to make these kitties, I would learn! Too, too adorable!

  45. Oh wow those are completely adorable. I crocheted before I knot and recently pulled out the hooks again. This would be fun.

  46. I would have to brush up on my crochet skills to use this book….

  47. Please!!! So cute!

  48. Kelly S. says:

    I love crocheting animals!

  49. I have a niece who would adore a basket full of kittens!
