Monochrome May

Happy May Day!

First things first, the winner of my review copy of Wee Garter Stitch: Must-Have Knits for Modern Babies & Toddlers by Vickie Howell is Mary Beth Cavert, who has been emailed. Thanks to everyone who left a comment to be entered in the drawing. I have more review books coming so the book giveaways will continue!

I’ve spent the last few months working on projects that have been all about color. So it’s time for something completely different:

This is the start of Alice Starmore’s Kinsale, a design from her 1992 book Fishermen’s Sweaters. I knit Kinsale once before, a good 10 years ago. This time I am using this yarn:

Purchased from The Loopy Ewe, it’s natural colored organic cotton. I’m using a U.S. size 3 needle. The yarn is lovely and soft and the sweater is going to be very soft and comfy when done. My only issue is that the yarn is rather splitty. It’s comprised of 4 plies and you have to take care to grab all four plies when inserting the needle tip. Other than that, it is lovely to knit.

In Loki news, I bought him his own little kitty sofa:

I follow Beth Stern on Instagram, and noted that she got this for her kitties. I figured what’s good enough for Beth & Howard Stern’s kitties is good enough for Loki! I found it on Amazon, but it is also available from Doctors Foster & Smith.

  1. I saw this bed on theittybittykittycommitee on IG! She fosters kittens, and posts FABULOUS photos of them! Loki looks like he gives it a paws up!!

  2. Samina says:

I’ve used that Appalachian cotton for a baby sweater before. It’s lovely stuff. Also, please stop showing us all this spiffy stuff you get for Loki. I’m getting some serious side-eye from my little hooligans!

  3. Catherine S. says:

So much love for Beth & Howard Stern! I’ve been a huge fan of Howard’s since 1997. What they are doing for these rescue cats is beyond amazing.

  4. Brenda says:

Would love to see the patterns in that book. I have a bunch of young grandchildren!

  5. I love Loki on his new little kitty couch. So adorable! I wonder if my cats would like to lounge on one if these? Too cute!

  6. OMG, I just checked out Beth Stern’s Instagram, #MUST FOLLOW.

That kitty couch is super cool. I got my kitties the Prorrounge from Kitty Pod, and they loved it (and scratched it) so much, that after ten years I finally recycled it due to general scruffiness. It made a great ottoman, too.

  7. Sophy0075 says:

I will have to check out that cotton. As for Loki- what a lucky cat! What a great sofa!

  8. OH, the sofa is so damn cute! I love it, and Loki looks like a sultan just lounging about.

  9. Denise Wessman says:

Just adore Loki and the sofa. My kitty may just need one.

  10. The last two cat beds I’ve bought for my little devil he’s destroyed by shlepping them around the house and ripping them open. I think he doesn’t like being classified as a cat.

  11. My kitties are going to demand a sofa now! Too cute! The cotton yarn looks great for Spring.

  12. The King on his throne. Love it. He’ll soon be wanting a crown as well. Preferably chewable.
