My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Thank you for all the very nice comments about my Toorie Cardigan. In answer to a few questions, I have not yet worn it. Unless we have a cold day coming up in the next week or so, it will likely be put away until next Autumn/Winter.

My new project:

This is Hearten, a design by Kim Hargreaves from Capsule Coll. No. 03 CALM. I found a used copy of the booklet for sale via Amazon.

The pattern calls for Rowan Softyak DK, but I went with something else: I dipped into my precious stash of the now sadly discontinued Rowan Calmer. (I am still bitter about Rowan discontinuing Calmer.) I’m using color # 501 — Preen. The gauge is spot-on using the suggested needles for this project.

Here is Loki’s plan for the day:

Note the nicely crossed paws!

  1. Beautiful!

  2. Stephanie says:

A non-knitter friend recently gave me a trash bag full of Calmer from her deceased mother’s stash. Three sweater quantities, enough for three or four baby blankets, and some single skeins for contrast colors or small striped projects. I am truly sorry about her mom, but I am so honored and happy to inherit the Calmer.

  3. What beautiful honeycombs!

I am curious of those stitch holders cause any problems with stretch. I assume not because you are using them and you are the Knitting Master. But I have always used scrap yarn because somewhere long ago when I was first learning to knit I read some book that said to avoid those holders because they can stretch the work. I am guessing, now that I see that you use them, that that is just total hooey.

Hearten is beautiful…I love the color, too. Loki is gorgeous, such an adorable pose! ❤️??

  5. I’m looking forward to your finished sweater – I’ve had it in my “favorites” since the magazine came out.

Your Hearten is lovely – Preen is a great color, Your cardi will be a wardrobe classic. I made a Gansy inspired pullover with some Calmer in that color and it is so vibrant. The yarn has great stitch definition and has a soft hand. Rowan has had some special yarns, but Calmer is unique. I’m happy that you have a stash of it.
